TiT FC setup @ 94%RH, need holes on lid?
    #7736548 - 12/09/07 01:01 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

After patiently waiting an extra week since full colonization, I dunked my cakes for 12 hours, rolled them in verm and birthed them in my terrarium. I'm using a 106QT TiT FC with 3" perlite and FEA provided by a 60 gal air pump with dual chambers + 150W heater set at 78F. After I placed the cakes in the FC, I waited an hour and then misted them before I went to bed and also 8 hours later when I woke up. The RH has been at a constant 94% and the condensation on the walls can be clearly seen.

I don't have any holes drilled on the lid, will drilling some raise the RH and improve the FAE? I have a 25lb weight on the inner tub to submerge it more to raise the temp a couple of degrees, but this also tightens the lid and less air can escape. This raised the RH from 93% to 94% but I think FAE is suffering so I'm thinking I need holes.

with the air pump running 24/7 even if you only have 1 single hole it will still provide great FAE and will fruit your cakes properly. no matter how many holes you drill, the pump is going to mix up the air and force it out of the hole. the only downfall to a small hole is the back pressure on your pump. 2 small 1/2 inch (or even 1 inch) holes filled with polyfill on the top will provide proper FAE when using a good pump.

Thanks.. I don't have a drill so I used my dremel with a 1/8" drill attachment and drilled 20+ holes all around the lid. When it was a single hole I put my finger on it and could slightly feel the air pushing out so I think it's working. It's been couple of hours since then and humidity's still at 94% but now I have FAE..

Another thing, I put the air stones 2" under the perlite so it pushes the moisture out at the same time.. The temp's also stable @ 73F so far.

that sounds great... im actually thinking of doing the exact same setup myself (TiT PMP).i know what you mean, the air that the pumps push is barely enough to feel with your finger. i guess we just have to trust that out pump is still kickin  on the plus side, the pump i bought it very quite. hope everything goes well!

cheers,
