Most of my MP3 collection gone...
    #7736368 - 12/09/07 12:14 PM (16 years, 6 months ago)

WTF..When I open Itunes and try to play one of my songs it says the original file couldn't be found. This is bullshit, I never deleted anything. What do you guys think happened?

there is really no telling.

maybe you had it on an external device and it wasn't plugged in or the files were moved... i know itunes tries to auto-organize your files sometimes... make sure you add your itunes folder under my documents/my music..

why dont you find one of the files that is supposedly missing and do a windows search on your entire hard drive for it..

go to start menu >> my documents >> my music >> iTunes >> iTunes Music

there you will find all of your music that you purchased or ripped with iTunes.

btw, itunes sucks the cock.

Itunes likes to fuck with your music (moving it around, hiding it. etc..). That's the only thing I really hate about Itunes.

You've simply moved the file location. This is probably the case. It happens to me a lot. When you work with multiple external hard drives and are moving shit around all the time it happens. I can't listen to any of my music without my hd. I love it!

i use winamp too... if you aren't lazy and actually organize your music ie \music\genre\artist\album\song.mp3 its not hard to find exactly what you want. thats the only advantage things like itunes has on winamp or some other simple mp3 player imo

The only thing that sucks worse than winamp is itunes.

Foobar FTW!

nothing. fucking winamp pioneered mp3 players and has been around before most of that other bullshit out there.

i have my music organized by genre and artist and either full cds/random songs within a genre.

plus winamp doesn't take up your fckin memory and avs owns the SHIT out of shitty itunes..

i've been using winamp literally for close to ten years... fuck itunes.

I use foobar, too. It has the potential to be awesome and it plays flac. All it needs is a search function.

Winamp plays flac as well. It has a search function, it can rips cds and whatnot else. Plus the milkdrop visualization plugin is mind blowing.

Doesn't it come bloated and use a ton of memory also?

I have 25,000 mp3s that I have loaded into both Winamp 5 and iTunes. With Winamp 5, it takes about 10-15 minutes to load all of them including all of the file info (what Winamp says will take the longest). With iTunes, it takes about 2-3 hours. That was my first step in evaluating the 2 programs.

I then loaded both of them and took a look at the non-playing/idle Memory usage with all 25,000 mp3s loaded. Winamp 5 is about 8 megs, while iTunes is at about 70 megs.

Finally, I took a look at memory usage while they were both playing the same exact song. After 1 minutes of the song playing the memory usage for Winamp 5 was at about 32 megs, but would also dip back down to 8 megs. iTunes just jumped about 500kb up to slightly over 70 megs.

For some reason when I would pause iTunes the memory usage would jump up to 120 megs, with the CPU usage jumping up to about 50%. Winamp did not change at all, but the CPU usage did go up to about 20% at most during any time in the test.

After playing around with iTunes, I also noticed that the memory usage was also proportional to the size of the iTunes window. This was also somewhat true with Winamp, but not to the same extent.

I still like foobar. Its using 6,600 kilobytes of memory while playing a flac version of Sound of Silence and about 1,000 songs loaded.
