Well, i'll give advice. But you are going to have to do some leg work.

But you can snag a laptop for a hundred or two on ebay easy. Probably something in the range of a p3 or intel athlon.

"To do right is to know what you want. Now when you are dissatisfied with yourself it's because you are after something you don't really want. What objects are you proposing to yourself? Are they the objects you really value? If they are not, you are cheating yourself. I don't meant that if you chose to pursue the objects you most value, you will attain them; of course not. Your experience will tell you that. But success in getting after much labor what you really don't care for is the bitterest and most ridiculous failure." -George Santayana

how inexpensive, what do you need it to do? before you settle on anything, read reviews. tons and tons of reviews.

you should've taken advantage of the black friday deals, dude. there were a couple of decent laptops marked down like $300 to that price range. but that's done and gone.

i dunno, i know these guys recommended ebay... but whenever i get electronics i steer away from auction sites. in my own searches for electronics, newegg is always the FIRST place i look. it's got incredibly complete information, peer reviews, comprehensive layout and incredible customer service. amazon and tigerdirect are good places to look as well. totally legit sellers, clear warranties, etc.

Linux has teamed with dell

honestly, this is great, since linux is free, you could change the os to fit you.

thats what i would get, anyways, unless you are counting on playing games. then go for an xp laptop >.>

I think they are actually coming out with a cheaper model soon. Keep in mind, it comes with Xandros linux and has a few differences from a normal laptop(No cd/dvd drive. SSD instead of a hard disk drive). They are not for everyone.
