It's getting to where you have a permit or are in a designated free speech zone. People have been arrested for a reading the Constitution out loud in a park during a pro war rally.
Our rights to free speech are not as protected or "free" as you believe they are.

Does this forum have a permit? Is shroomery a designated free speech zone? Come on.

That is because he is a government employee in a position of authority. You're damn right he shouldn't be promoting school violence. Just imagine if one of his students took him seriously.
And 300 dollars bail is a slap on the wrist. Besides you are changing your argument, I am not going to be arrested and you know it. So much for your claim.

Yeah you're just being hauled off for your opinions aren't you? I mean, it's just the regular communist china over here. Seeing as other dictatorships allow you to argue for armed rebellion over the internet.

About what? You guys actually seemed to be fairly close to agreeing, i.e. that it's not an impending fascist plot but an occasionally necessary maneuver, in spite of your insults.
And SoY, Buss didn't make a joke, he made a threat. There's also a thread about that asshole, too. http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/7716578/an/0/page/1

Did you read the text of the bill? It explicitly states that a homegrown terrorist is someone who adopts an *violent*, *extremist* (not defined) belief system with the intent of religious, political, or social change.
Overthrowing the government most definitely falls under that umbrella.

The governnment is composed of people. People with family, and relatives, and dreams. So is the military. And so is the police.
Now, don't get me wrong, there are some government where the politicians look out only for themselves--namely dictatorships. But ours has a democratic tradition.
I have faith in my government, because so far the government has been good to me. I have never had to deal with secret police, or corrupt cops demanding bribes, or some party official censoring my statements. I also realize we have a constitution, checks and balances, and the ability to vote, as well as speak our minds freely.
The fact that you can even debate this issue on this forum proves how free you are. If you were in China and you mentioned revolution you'd be locked up in a second. Like I said you have no idea of how truly free you really are.
I have dealt with many police and "secret" police. In fact my unhealthy relationship with the government started when I started working at an environmental activist organization. The mere fact the FBI keeps close tabs on peace-advocating individuals should be hint enough that there is something to hide. Let's not forget that thanks to the Patriot Act, and the Homegrown Radicalization Terrorist Act revision, diffusing information about "social change" is deemed as a terrorist activity.
I have absolutely no faith in a government entirely ruled by private interest groups (pharmaceutical, military, corporate) that have gone out of their way to create some sort of feudal control system.

zappa you are so funny. you are ignorant enough to think that the society you live in is the best that there ever was and is the best that there ever will be. how can you possibly say that since you have not lived in any other time or society? if you oppose change simply because it is a change to the status quo you are one sorry individual.

They are allowing you to argue for armed rebellion because they know that you are too lazy to actually do it. The governments made it really easy for a whole lot of us to become complacent and just enjoy the cheap luxuries that capitalism and the mass production of goods have made easily accessible.

By your own faulty logic (only that which is immediately experienced can be known) you can have no opinion yourself. Wankers, i.e. philosophers, have even been known to argue that that which is experienced cannot be truly known. A useless philosophy. Any changes I'd like to make probably overlap yours by about 40%. But then I have some concept of human nature. You, not so much. I believe that there is a very thin veneer of civilization that overlays any one individual's overwhelming selfishness.

what hole is in my logic? i never said that i had an opinion on anything. i was just pointing out how your claim was absolutely baseless. my stance on society is that right now is the status quo and that we can only make changes to that in order to improve it. i made no claim about how good or bad it was in comparison to every other society in history like you did. see the difference?
how can you possible quantify your experience in american society with that of a society that was around even 90 years ago? you can't because you didn't experience it. you can assume that this one is better based on second hand knowledge. your dislike for philosophy still doesn't mean you know any more about what it was like to live at any other time or place in history or the future for that matter.
also where do you get off saying i have no concept of human nature? i'm willing to bet that i have an equal if not superior grasp on human nature than you do. after all you think war is natural.
