I've done everything right according to teks now that I've seen them, (prior to aug. I did eveything from past experince and reading from 10 years ago) and still had things go wrong. I've also short cutted the hell out of things and had them work. Its just always safer to test. I stopped for awhile when I was having great success, but then something went wrong. Even when you have 99% success rate that 1% can fuck you when its all you have. You'll probly be fine just be on the safe side when that all your eggs.

Well I guess I'll just knock up two bags and see how they do. When I see that they're going I'll knock up a couple more and if those start doing well, I'll do the rest.

It never hurts the loss of a few days aren't as bad the loss of everything I did a test bag 2 days ago when I inoc. My new lcs from clones if it is alright today ill use it to make up the remain lcs I bought then test the 4 lcs I made from clones and one or more of them will become my new master. If something went wrong I only lost the one bag, and I should have a new lc in a couple more days to test. If all else fails I've go bags and jars of colinized birdseed in the fridge and about 50 spore prints. Its always good to have plan. Good luck

SHIT! I just thought I had everything figured out and then I went outside to smoke a cigarette.
It's 10 fucking degrees and it's the middle of the day! (Fahrenheit that is...)
I was about to order my syringes, but now I don't know what to do. Won't the temperature completely destroy them when the mail man drops them at my front door to the time I get them inside?
(PO box not an option)

depends on the time... you can always put up a sign telling the mail man to drop the mail into a cooler .

I always order nextday shipping in the hot parts of summer and winter so can get them out of the mail box before they sit to long in the hot or cold but I've had more problems from heat that cold. I'm not sure but I always went by the rule if it doesn't freeze it all good. I mean I've kept syringes 5 months in the frige and haven't had a problem. That's 40f where are you located I'm by chicago

I'm in Colorado... and I wasn't too worried because it's usually around freezing, but not THIS FAR below. I mean... 10 degrees, that's gotta be frozin' within an hour. And I can't take off work to wait for the mail man.
Would a cooler really keep it from freezing?

i personally would go with jars when you get your pc at first if you already have some. just untill you get used to bulk growing teks. i have no experience with spawn bags but cant imagine any other failure than poor sealing or sterilization techniques
see this is where this hobby gets you. mycology is a science and science can get expensive. you also have to study. try a liquid culture or learn agar. my suggestion is to order more solution and read read read. then learn agar with the new syringe while using only a few cc to grow your next run. agar is the way to go. you spend much less money making spawn and it pays off in the long run. you can even go from agar to lc then to pf cakes or spawn bags and jars with only a drop of spore solution.

yep. My very first try at this science was with AGAR and LC. I KNEW from the get go that the genetic source was finite if I didn't have a technique to stay in stock. You should work on keeping longevity before getting a fruit. That alone will pay for itself instead of having to throw money at a new syringe every time you run out. Try agar, learn cloning, look into ALL of the differing LC teks. Study what you read and then apply in a lab verbatim and you'll be OK. Try to hurry things and you might find yourself disappointed... please believe me.

I was thinking a small cooler with some of those pocket warmers or some thing else that would keep it just above freezing temp inside it. (Heated gallon of water) shouldn't take much coolers work a thermases too, but you you'll want to experement first

YES... EXACTLY the right train of thought! There's your answer friend... heat your mailbox somehow... extension cord to a heat bomb maybe???

Hmm... heating my mailbox. That's gonna be a rough one... keeping it heated for the 5 day range that it might arrive in that is. I was looking at the weather forecast and the time frame it'll hopefully arrive in is predicted to have a high of just above freezing and a lows of 14-18. How far below freezing do you guys think it'll have to be to kill the whole game within a couple hours?

If your going to make a karo based LC then you should add some Sugar In The Raw, It will really make a difference. Heres a thread I started about Karo LC's

I'm still shifting back and forth between making my own LC's or ordering them pre-sterilized just to cut down on the risk of failing a smidgen more. If I'm ordering a pre-sterilized LC, what would be the best kind?
Oh, and thanks for the link Buddha. I'll definitely remember that if I chose to make my own.

Karo is the worst thing to use next to table sugar. Malt extract and dextrose are some the best.

Because of how processed it is? And therefore it having so little nutritional value?
