Bags for Beginners?

Although I've completed the PFtek earlier this year and have read for countless hours about every aspect of mycology I still consider myself more or less a beginner due to my lack of experience.
Recently in a thread someone mentioned that grow bags have the potential of having a high failure rate, especially for beginners. Would anyone consider this to be true?
I'm planning on using pre-sterilized grow bags exclusively for my next grow and am about to order them, yet after reading this have had some concerns. I'm planning on getting an electric sterilizer in a couple months when I have the money for it set aside and then make my own bags, but for this run I was going to get them pre-sterilized.
Does anyone think I should go with jars? I understand that jars were the old favorite, but many have converted to bags due to their convenience and efficiency. But all these accounts were from experienced veterans. What about for the well-studied beginner?
Any opinions are greatly appreciated, I really would like to get this show on the road as soon as possible. But would rather not fuck up.

Grain bags hold way more than jars. Thats why people use them for bulk grows. I would say go with jars the first couple times because you will have at least 12 quart jars instead of two or three grain bags. you could easily lose 3 jars or and still have 9 but if you lose the three grain bags you have to start over. +IMO pre-sterilized bags and jars cost way to much. I almost forgot you can always turn n9ne jars into 90 and 90 into 900 via G2G.

I was thinking about that, and that is of course a reasonable argument. When I did my PFtek I had 24 jars and 2 of them were completely contam'd. And I think maybe one or two were questionable. I used multi-spore injection and they were knocked up in a dirty ass room with no alcohol wipes, just a bic lighter in between inoculations. Definitely learned my lesson about letting the needle cool down before inoculation.
Is there anything beyond this that I should be worried about?
If it makes any difference, I'm planning on using a karo-based LC.

LC's fucken rock... i will never go back to just using a multi-spore syringe. i have multiplied my syringe to about a liter of solution and i can even multiply it even further if i please. i knocked up some brown rice jars a few days back (full cooked brown rice) and it took a little under 2 days to see first signs of colonization. using the LC will improve your grow experience substantially. If your bags contaminate you will see it within a few days for sure which doesn't mean you need to wait ages just to find that your bags are crapped all over.

"which doesn't mean you need to wait ages just to find that your bags are crapped all over."
right now I'm waiting on a bag i injected with spore solution about 1.5 months ago and I'm still not seeing any signs. is there anything i should be looking for? how long does it take for one bag to start to colonize with only spore solution? sorry for intruding on your post.

wow 1.5 months is ridiculous. if you don't have any signs of growth within a month and a half i would think that the bag needs to be tossed. it shouldn't take THAT long to see signs of growth. ive just seen growth in 2 days... almost 2 months seems toss-able IMO.

it could just be the spore syringe, i got a panama syringe a while back that didn't do shit as far as producing mycelium. i just birthed 2 cakes that came from that strain and took about a month or so to fully colonize. My brazilian strain ate up my jars in 2 weeks or so (almost raped the nutrition deprived vermiculite top layer in the process).

It started as couple of white fuzz spots in the center. At first I was thinking cob web, but that's usually on the surface mixed it up a little two days later it looked like myc. And took off I'm not sure why it took so long. Never injected mutispore in a poo bag before. I had an extra bag and I needed the syringe for lcs .

I haven't had much luck with lcs I've made my self except for the ones I put a small amout of colonized grain in (after cooled from pc) and mixed for a week on mag. Stirer. I also am trying some premade lc from a sponser I just inoc. 4 with needle biop. clones 2 days a ago. Ill be checking on them later. You might try a grain bag from a multi then spawn to poo. I have done this with a fair amout success without a hood or glove box. Took one bag of spawn split it into 4 bag and resealed.

i think i will try LC one last time, but I'm not sure if i want to purchase 3 bags or just go with one. i could fuck up all three and be short all that money or i could go with one and have great success only wishing i went with 3 bags.

go with 3, odds are very likely that one will succeed paying you back all your spent money

If your lc didn't work the 1st time try a test jar if you don't have a pc you can boil a brf jar and then you don't waste any bags and even if you don't have any of the supplies it will only cost you the price of one bag and you can continue to test in the future and not waste any then ether.

Damn, that's scary... I wasn't even considering the possibility of my LC failing horrible. I was just planning on following the tek word by word and ordering my syringes from a reputable vendor. I didn't really see any room for failure there.
Last time I grew every single mini-failure within the grow could be traced back to a short cut I took in the tek I was using which made me rather confident that I would succeed the next time if I didn't take any short cuts and followed a reputable tek with good reviews word by word.
How high are the chances that if I do everything right, it just won't work? I mean, what are the factors that aren't within my control?
