Growing button mushrooms

Hey fellow shroomers, unfortunatly I don't shroom anymore because of mental problems but there much better now and I don't want to risk it. Only one problem, I still love the hobby of cultivation. I was thinking of growing button mushrooms by doing the grocery store agar tek it seems really simple and evereything is easy to get. I was wondering if it would be better to get a spore print from a store bought mushroom or use a piece of the mushroom, I would imagine eitherone would work but want to be sure. If I get a digital camera I might just post pictures of my work. Later

I'd say taking a bit of flesh and culturing that would be the best way to go. You'd risk contam. messing around with the spores, and the genetics are already comercial quality. Although if you'd want to try to get a mutant, spores could open that door for you. It would kind of randomize things a little bit. Good idea by the way... I suppose it dosen't really matter where your sample comes from... heh, as long as it is a sample! Please post pictures, as i may follow suit.

those mushrooms contain carcinogens and are not good for your health. You should cultivate oysters instead, so much more nutrition

you can also live in a bubble too. I believe that cooking the mushrooms destroys the carcinogens in them.

Cooking is also necessary to release the nutrients. Your body can't digest raw mushrooms. Any mushroom for food should be cooked. Button mushrooms don't cause cancer, contrary to some non-peer reviewed claims otherwise. RR

I onley eat two wild mushrooms raw-Trametes versicolor, turkey tail, and Tremella spp., witch's butter. Just a nibbling is very energizing.
Agaritine, wich is related to a class of chemicals called hydrazines. Possess carcinogenic properties. One might have to consume 350 grams of this mushroom daily for 50 years to risk of initiating tumor growth.
When one considers the possible carcinogenic effect of their chronic consumption, and the possible trace amounts of malathion thst may be present, it is probably wise to eat them on more than 1-2 times weekly in moderate amounts.

Witch's butter is great. The Mrs. and I do a lot of backpacking and mountain climbing in the PNW. I like to take rest breaks when I see a log covered in Tremella. It makes a great little trailside snack while smoking a bowl. RR

Almost like jello, but without as much sweetness. The taste itself is hard to describe, but pleasant. I meant to clone some this past summer, but didn't get around to it. I think it would be fun to grow. RR
