Oh ok, I was aware of that, but I thought he might be alluding to some root condition I'm not aware of.
Thanks!

actually its not the same thing as mj plants. all poppies lay down. they sprout then shoot up then lay down. usually in nature, the rains cause soil to cover the shoot. in a indoor environment its much more evident because there arent rains. anyone who has grown a sufficent amount of indoor or outdoor poppies is familar with this behavior. the shoot actually turns into root. any growth above the cotyledons will be thick robust growth. then the root will gain strength and girth. mj never does this it continues to grow vertically. i believe this is a survival trait the poppies carry from living in "rough" soil conditions. if you are talking about them laying down to flourescents then light could be the issue but i have seen good vegatative results from them also. laying down is nothing to be alarmed by they all do it even in the fullest sun.

ApJunkie, sorry for the late reply. Referring to the roots before was when I was thinking you might start them indoors and then transplant them outside. They don't always take well to that unless you have a good transplant medium to start them in. Other than that damping off is always a threat.
I hadn't considered that you'd actually use HID or HPS lights for poppies indoors. I had been alluding to that in my previous posts I suppose. I don't see it as practical and hence why anyone would want to do it. Sheerly because it seems like a waste of electricity for what would end up being a tiny yield of plants unless you've got a huge space and tons of lights. Which then incurs more electricity.
So instead of casual growing you're willing to setup something semi-elaborate to grow poppies? I don't see why you'd want to do this. Hypothetically what would be the goal of this and how big of a space are you trying to do this in then?
Seems more practical to just grow them outside in my opinion and experience.

Woah woah woah, I never said anything about MH or HPS bulbs for these. I'm not going to invest $400 in a light just for some poppies. I have a nice 4 foot flourescent light fixture with natural daylight bulbs that I'm going to use. Didn't I say it wasn't going to be elaborate?

Your plans of getting nodded are doomed if you aren't transplanting outside.. Poppies need a lot of light to grow well.
