The Road to Nowhere
    #7732714 - 12/08/07 11:06 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

What do you think about the philosophical implications behind this song?

--------------------
“Strengthened by contemplation and study,
I will not fear my passions like a coward.
My body I will give to pleasures,
to diversions that I’ve dreamed of,
to the most daring erotic desires,
to the lustful impulses of my blood, without
any fear at all, for whenever I will—
and I will have the will, strengthened
as I’ll be with contemplation and study—
at the crucial moments I’ll recover
my spirit as was before: ascetic.”

at the same time, the video kind of makes that seem like a depressing thing.  or maybe it's just lampooning nihilism and basking in the silly side of existence.

I love D.Bs lyrics. Check out his last few solo CDs for some mind blowing lyrics.

I've always liked this song but it especially fits in with my current beliefs about our inability to know what is real. The road to nowhere is made up of our individual and collectives beliefs.

Awesome that you posted this Bug, I posted the lyrics to the song "Once in a Lifetime" by the Talking Heads just recently. A lot of their songs seem to have these kind of "enlightening" messages.

This is just based off of my current line of thinking, but I think the song is about our minds creating systems which lead us into predictable paths based off of goals that which reflected in reality are getting us nowhere or nothing (we know where we are going, we just need time to sort it out). This could be microcosmic or macrocosmic, those times in your life where you are absent until that one day you become present and all of a sudden you're like "well how did I get here?" (but that's more like the song Once in a Lifetime I think) or maybe it could be about all of humanity in general.

actually that post was what inspired this one... i DLed some of their stuff (had never heard it before as far as i know) and then looked up their videos on youtube. very thought-provoking lyrics in all of their songs

same as it ever was
same as it ever was
same as it ever was
same as it ever was.
