There's a post over on my journal called "Why Is Marijuana Illegal?" I agree completely with what Irvin says, yet I doubt it even made a dent in the legality of cannabis. Go figure.
Some say it remains illegal because the government cannot effectively tax it. I don't know.

I live in Maryland.. inflation is a bitch. It was about 50-60 an 1/8 a year ago... lately it's been so sparse people are paying 70-80 a 1/8 when they CAN find it.
Hell. I paid 75 bucks for an 1/8 a few months ago. It's absurd but fuck, but when there's a drought.. what can you do?

The government does a lotta shit they're supposedly not allowed to do... they'll tax it if they want to. I blame two things for the illegality:
a) lobbyists for cigarettes and such b) legacy propoganda... i think a lotta the propoganda in the past was been effective in scaring the fuck outta the generation that now has the power.

u can grow your own
More easily said than done when you live with a significant other who won't allow it, live in an urban area, don't have a lotta space, can't find seeds, etc.

can't tax it? that reminds me of prohibition and why alcohol was illegal. I'm not exactly sure of prohibition, but it had something to do with export and import
and yea, it probably is because of the propaganda. They sure do make a lot of money arresting people too

I'd pay 75 for the super duper diggity dank falvor crystals that are an important part of a complete breakfast... but this 75 dollar stuff in MD is the same old run of the mill kind bud that's been around forever.. nothing new.
To be honest, I'm more concerned with the lack of supply here in MD than I am with the price.
Man.. why did I move back here from Southern California again? I traded my cheap, abundant herb supply for freezing rain and a kick in the balls.

That's a start, but they really need to turn the other way completely when it comes to cannabis. No arrest, no incarceration at all for any amount or cultivation. You all need something similar to this document which he have pending here in California.
Hopefully, it will be passed into law in the 2008 election.
"up to 12 pounds (192 ounces) of dried, cured cannabis hemp flowers/bud (not leaf) produced per adult, 21 years or older, per year shall be considered as being for personal use."... I could live with that- a pound a month for personal use...
