I am about to birth my cakes in a couple days. I am going to dunk and roll. I was planning on casing a few of them. I was reading a post and saw someone mentioned this but did not elaborate. so i am wondering if i can roll in my casing material? I am using jiffy mix to case with. Also if this can be done should i spray the casing material directly at first just till moist/ thanks for any feedback

are you casing without adding a substrate? it isn't worth the effort to just case plain cakes.

You want to dunk and roll in plain, dry vermiculite, then mist. Jiffy mix contains peat. It's for casing, not rolling.

It might work if the casing mix can stick to the cakes. The reason we roll in verm is it has the same effect as a casing layer on casings.
The moist verm provides moisture kinda like a casing layer, keeping humidity high for good hyphol and primordia formation.
some people put there verm in a blender because it makes it finer and covers the cake more evenly.

If you don't add extra substrate (i.e poo, coir, straw) when you crumble you will get exactly the same yields or even less than you would have got by just dunking and rolling http:/http://www.shroomery.org/9735/Should-I-crumble-and-case-my-cakes
