Edibles in Seattle Area question
    #7731273 - 12/07/07 11:33 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Just moved to the emerald city, and I've been keeping busy exploring the parks to see what they're offering. What, if any, edible varieties grow here in the winter? Any favorites? I came across a small bunch of oysters and cooked them up for dinner, and a mature chanterelle that was too old and soggy to eat.

You moved to Seattle just after a couple nasty freezes, so it's going to be slim pickems until spring. Oysters are your best bet in the low elevation mountains. But even those are going be rare. Most of the hunters around here just take a break until spring.

Welcome to the Emerald City.

I picked a few oysters yesterday to the east of seattle in the cascades. There was snow on the ground, but they were still good, but small. As said, it's going to be slim pickings until spring, when it seems half the dead alders are covered with oysters.
