i bought some straw from michaels as the title suggests. it doesnt say what kind it is on the bag. it came in a mini bale. it is very light yellow in color. does anyone know what kind this might be? i guess its intended for crafts probably. i've mixed it with hpoo in the past and it worked out well but im wondering if i could do a straw log tech. with this type all by itself? does anyone have any words of wisdom? thanks

It's wheat straw. It will work for a straw log, but it's expensive.
Feed/farm stores have it much cheaper.

the larger bales are $8.99. i think its worth it just cause there isnt much more cutting needed.

OH jesus that's some expensive straw!
Go to a feed store. :| I've seen Large Bales of straw for $3 where I live. Of course this was FEED straw for horses and such, not for arts and crafts.

Well I suppose so. It does work just as well then? I mean there isn't any kind of chemical treatment to those bales is there??

Yes, it's the same as any other wheat straw. Michael's comes somewhat pre-shredded.
No chemicals that I know of. Many people have had success with it.
Straw works much better after composting to remove its waxy coating.
