Pope approves indulgences

Does anyone here actually believe this nonsense?
***Pope approves Lourdes indulgences***
Pope Benedict XVI has authorised special indulgences to mark the 150th anniversary of the Virgin Mary's reputed appearance at Lourdes.
Catholics visiting the site within a year of 8 December will be able to receive an indulgence, which the Church teaches can reduce time in purgatory.
Lourdes has drawn pilgrims since Mary was said to have appeared in 1858 to shepherdess Bernadette Soubirous.
The waters of the French shrine are said to have miraculous healing powers.
The Pope is expected to visit the shrine next year.
The pontiff also said believers who prayed at places of worship dedicated to Our Lady of Lourdes from 2-11 February next year - or who were unable to make the journey - would also be able to receive indulgences.
The decree was signed by US Cardinal J Francis Stafford, who is head of the Apostolic Penitentiary, a Vatican court dealing with indulgences and matters of conscience.
Indulgences became infamous in the 16th century for being sold rather than earned, helping, historians say, trigger the Protestant reformation.
While some might consider indulgences an outdated concept, great spiritual importance have been assigned to them by Benedict XVI and his predecessor, Pope John Paul II.

Yeah, but the notion of truth seems to differ a lot from one individual to another, and you obviously have a different one than I do. So to which truth are you referring to?

Those catholics are probably saying the same about christians "can you actually believe they have to tithe 10%? Gosh!"
That is of course, if they are not required to as well.
it's religion, and religion is business, and business is good.

They are quite stubborn in holding to their beliefs. Common sense will never make an entry into their minds. Tsk, tsk, tsk.

Oh, how I wish that you might know the joy of the Holy Spirit witnessing with your own spirit. Then you can sing songs of joy.

The joy of God emanates by proclaiming good news to hell deserving sinners. People are born on their way to hell and cursed. Believing is not a condition to be met, but a gift of God's grace. Unbelief is the evidence of ALREADY being cursed and in an unregenerate state. Without grace NO ONE could or would become saved. Free grace is the foundation of true biblical grace and unconditional love to all those believing.

And don't u dare reply asking jesus into my heart. I trusted god to put me down the right path with good people and the etc. for a good part of 15 or so years... here i am with no money, basically no food, no life, and a huge hole to climb out of.
I bet you'll come back with "god works in mysterious ways" which is the normal christians come back and in such, the way i see it, is nothing but coincidences.
Or even better, I haven't doing my part right? Does this god of yours have a humorous side to him? Which is way more then most of the hypocrite christians do around here these days.
Do I put the sole blame on god? Not at all. But i was young, and had nothing around me to be a good influence, I couldn't have possibly saw this coming and had no one telling me or encouraging me.
If this "god" of yours is testing me to see how long i'll last, i'm telling him i'm done with this shit. My name isn't job. Is you god even paying attention? I followed this "faith" happily for i don't know how long. The faith in it had me happy completely blindfolded to the events that were leading up to this point in time that I am in right now.
You need to ask your god why he is allowing me to be such a mockery to society.

Sounds to me like you are doing fine. I wouldn't say you are a mockery to society at all, based on what you typed. Your life sounds a lot like the majority's to me, whether the majority realizes it or not. It's the human condition. It's the First Noble Truth.

From your posting I can guess at some of your theology, but I may be wrong, but here it goes. You state that you have faithfully gone to church and made yourself a role model for many years. Do you think that because you do this you can obtain or maintain God's favor? It sounds that way. If this is true then you do not believe THE GOSPEL. No doubt you believe "a gospel" but not the one in scripture. This sounds like deadly self-righteous religion. Until you come broken and seeing that you 1 - have no righteousness and 2 - have no ability to become righteous, then you have no need of salvation. Only sinners, those convinced of 1 and 2 by the Holy Spirit, can believe the gospel. Only then can the perfect imputed righteousness of Christ become real to your mind.
You complain about your physical conditions, but salvation is eternal and much greater than any temporal concern.
The grace of God is promised to hell deserving sinners, those convicted by the Spirit of their helpless condition before God's law. Only the grace of God can bring this conviction and salvation.

So what you're saying is that only those dumbshits who believe your ridiculous rhetoric and "are convinced of 1 and 2 blah blah blah" are deserving of hell.....what's the incentive to believe?

Man naturally does not see himself as bad as the Bible declares Man to be. All men by nature are ignorant of God's righteous standard. Man naturally sees that he is not THAT bad, that some goodness resides in him, some redeeming value. But the Bible says Man has no redeeming value at all! This is why natural man can not and will not accept the scripture for what it is saying, because men are self-righteous religionists. This is the core of almost all religion throughout history. Only conviction wrought by the Holy Spirit can show someone these things and make someone believe what it is saying. It is the gift of God that this takes place.

All I can say is, Where is the love?
Seeing as how there's a good possibility that salvation, let alone an afterlife, doesn't even exist, I don't see how you can just write off the problems people face in their daily lives.
Yes, there may be a real Heaven that that select, predetermined few you speak of will go to. However, the evidence we have as of present suggests that after death there is only nonconsciousness.
Thus, it's quite silly for you to ignore the issues we all face by saying, "Who cares! I'm saved! Nothing matters here on Earth! All that matters is that I go to an invisible place called Heaven! Can I prove that this place exists? Nope. Do I even have evidence that this place exists? Well, the Bible says it exists, therefore it exists. 'Nuff said."

SoY said: Fivepointer you continue to make me smile. Whenever I'm having a shitty day, I just think of all the fear and confusion in your tormented, delusional mind, and I realize that I don't really have it that bad!
Glad to hear I put a smile on your face. So you think I have a tormented mind with fear and confusion. Well I can tell you this is not the case at all. I have great joy in my heart, and I'm not confused. I have been blood bought by God Himself, why would I be tormented?
Oh, how I wish that you might know the joy of the Holy Spirit witnessing with your own spirit. Then you can sing songs of joy.
tell me how i can bring this joy into my life.
All the years I faithfully went to church and through out the day tried to make myself the best role model for the people around me that I could.
I do not see how I deserve the dysfunctional family that i have ( or lack there-of ), the paycheck to paycheck living, the every single night going home alone wondering what the hell am I even doing here.
Is you god even paying attention? I followed this "faith" happily for i don't know how long. The faith in it had me happy completely blindfolded to the events that were leading up to this point in time that I am in right now.
You need to ask your god why he is allowing me to be such a mockery to society.

So you are saying that i am being selfish for wanting more out of life then being god's little bitch basically?
Is it such a crime that I desire great things in this "temporal" life and that I care not for the after-life for it is the present in which things dictate my feelings and my way of viewing things?
Is my problem that I became to stray from the narrow path by yielding to my worldly desires? I did not realize that it was such a crime to ask a great loving god such as jehovah that he bless me with a good family, a respectable income, and happiness. Thats just for starters.
Do you call me selfish for desiring such "great" but in reality modest things such as these?
"You complain about your physical conditions, but salvation is eternal and much greater than any temporal concern."
...Then remind me what salvation is. If i remember correctly from my mind controlled days, it is being washed in the blood of the lamb. I was never washed in blood from no lamb. Even though i realize this to be a metaphor, a metaphor of what do I ask? You may reply with "the realization that you are now a child of the greatest and a brother of jesus christ".. However, i'd like to hear your own personal definition of it. Because, what it seems like to me, is your using this form of religion as a way of keeping you happy.
"Only then can the perfect imputed righteousness of Christ become real to your mind."
So I will become perfect you say? In what way might i be perfect? Of course i will not be perfect as you say for we are all sinners. So just what the f*** is that supposed to mean
I fail to see this grace that the holy spirit puts on me and instead believe it to be nothing more then a placebo effect. You expect it, so it happens.
