How to properly sterilize things

Hey all. I'm a complete newbie to this whole growing thing but I got all my supplies and I plan to start a batch using the PF Tek once you spores come in. I haven't even started and I'm already paranoid about things getting contaminated. The main area I see this possibly happening is after i've "birthed" the cakes and put them in my aquarium. The aquarium is just chilling under my bed right now collecting dust. My question is, how should I properly sterilize my aquarium before putting the cakes in? I was thinking just spray it down with a crap load of Lysol, but then it occured to me that the Lysol might become air born once I placed my cakes in and started spraying to keep it humid. If the Lysol gets airborn and on the cakes, wont it kill them too?

Bleach, rubbing alcohol, lysol, whatever. Just spray it down thoroughly, and then wipe it off with a CLEAN towel or napkins, and keep the container closed until you're ready to use it.
Not sure that this is the appropriate forum for this question..

wrong forum, fruiting chambers dont need to be sterilised and even if you did sterilise it. It wouldnt stay sterile for long.
Fully colinised substrate is resistant to contamination. As long as they are healthy contams will not be able to get a foothold on the substrate.
A fruiting chamber can be washed out with soap and water, this should wash away most of the spores and bacteria.
As for keeping it under your bed on the floor, thats were tons of spores live. Its generaly a good idea to keep it a few feet of the ground to be on the safe side.
As long as your substrate is fully colinised and not contaminated, once in the fruiting chamber, keep up good Fresh Air exhange and you shouldnt see a contam until to cake is spent and the myc is unable to defend itself.

Not true. It usually occurs inside the jar or in a casing layer. Once it's fully colonized it's quite resistant to contaminations. Nevertheless it's good practice to clean your aquarium thoroughly before putting cakes inside the aquarium. Use alcohol, dettol or lysol.

Soap and water is all you need to clean a terrarium. They're open and exposed to the air, so there is no reason for sterility or chemicals. RR

Clean it out with whatever you choose, I use bleach, vinegar and water mix, then wash it out with clean water and dry.
And yes, once the cakes are in there, don't keep em on the floor.
