Alternate rye cooking method

alright, so heres the deal.. i'm too much of a cheap bastard to go out and spend a hundred bucks on a pressure cooker, so i decided to experiment and see if i could get away with cooking up some rye grain without one. I've had 100% success with his method using pint sized jars, and 1L jars.
Basically I start by cleaning the grain with warm water. Then i let the grain soak in a pot for about 12-24 hours. after soaking i boiled the grain for 10 minutes on the stove, and then strained all the water out and let the remaining water evaporate as i shook the grain around in the colander. then when it has stopped steaming i put it into the jars, put lids and filters on, covered with tinfoil and loaded them into my pot for boiling. i put enough water in the pot so that the bottom inch or more is covered, and then i boil for 1 hour for pint size jars and 1.5 hours for 1L jars... I've done a couple of batches this way and have not seen any contams at all yet, and i haven't had any issues with grain being too wet.. anybody have any thoughts or comments??

You say you've had 100% success - out of how many jars?

Are you at sea level?
Altitude is going to be a major factor in this.

At sea level, water boils at 212F/100C.
Success means growing mushrooms, and I don't see any. Upon what are you basing 100% success? You've only boiled your jars for the amount of time recommended for pressure cooking. If there are any endospores in your grains at all, you're doomed. Not all batches have endospores, but most do. That's why we use pressure cookers for grains. RR

haha a pressure cooker is 129.99 new here.. don't know about where you are.. and aside from success rate, the jars fully colonize very quickly.. is it possible that the endospores will ruin a fully colonized jar of rye grain? I was under the impression that once the grain gets fully colonized it is very difficult for other "nasties" to get a foot-hold.. correct me if i'm wrong, i am very new to grain and i know you have alot more experience than i do.

Extreme altitudes can have an effect on things.
I cant remember how, but id imagine at higher altiudes waters boiling point would lower below 100C, probably due to the fact that pressure is lower higher up, meaning htere is less pressure to keep the water as a liquid.
Thats quite expensive, look for a second hand 1 try evilbay.

Correct, that's the basic jist of it. That's why we use pressure cookers - more pressure = hotter water, less pressure = colder water.

exactly, PV=nRT.
pressure is proportional to temperature.

Has the Mycelium fruited yet? If not you have very little means to know if that is cubensis mycelium or another
