How high should I keep my lighting?
    #7726366 - 12/06/07 09:23 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

im pretty good at growing, and have been making a casing every now and then with pretty good results. But I've always gotten smaller sized mushies and was wondering if it might possibly be linked to the position of my lights which is about a 3/4 of a foot above the casing layer. If I positioned my FC a foot or 2 further away would the mushrooms grow larger by any noticeable amount?

Indirect lighting is fine.

well then is the close bright light stunting their growth?

mushroom size most closely correlates to substrate depth I believe.

Light is a pinning trigger and no, it won't stunt growth.

No, lighting does not directly effect the size of the fruits.

Genetics and substrate depth does.

Ps. Cubensis is phototropic, meaning it doesn't require light to grow like plants do, just as a pinning trigger and to tell in which direction the fruits need to grow.

Your light should be plenty close enough. In my experience, the less fruits on your casing, the larger the fruits. The more fruits, the smaller the size.

What are you using for substrate and what is your substrate and casing layer depths?
