Contam on Fruiting Cake?
    #7725958 - 12/06/07 07:51 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Just noticed that one out of my dozen cakes has developed a slight greenish tint near the base of a bunch of shrooms. It also has a tiny bit near the top of the cake where no shrooms are growing.

Is it some sort of mold? or am I just being paranoid? Also, if it is mold should I just throw the cake out but pick the shrooms? Would they still be safe to eat?

Its hard to tell from the pictures, but that could just be bruising.

If it is mould it will grow substantially in the next day.

If it rubs of its mould, if it doesnt, its brusing, a q-tip or cooten bud will reveal.

Generaly its safe to harvest from a contaminated cake, but if the contam is on the shroom itself i would be a bit carefull.

As long as it likes fine and is not mouldy or rotten

Stop experimenting half way through your first grow. Grow it to maturity, watch it, learn from it. Do this a few times then experiment with different ideas and figure out what works best for you.

Do NOT post links to image shack here! They install spyware and other unauthorized programs on our computers. Members here do NOT want their surfing habits traced and sent back to the mothership.

If you want people to see your stuff, post it here.
