Coir spawning update

Here is how my half a brick of coir mixed with 3 crumbled south african cakes is doing. Hows it look? The container is clear on all side, I assume when it is fully colonized I have to tape up all the sides with some black duct tape, and then I am gonna cut a hole in the top of it and plexiglass it. This was gonna be a monotub, but I didn't drill the holes in it yet. Can i just use this without the holes and just fan it a few times a day and mist the sides like a regular FC? Or am I forced the drill the holes and use polyfill.
Heres some pics

If you leave the tub without the holes, then you will need to fan and mist. However, if you put holes in there, you won't need to do either. But, I don't know how you would do that at this point. I guess the point of the traditional monotub, is the way you can get it set up and then not worry about it any more.

ok but if i tape the sides up I can just do the normal fan and mist teh sides of the tub? should i be worried about the water running down the sides into the substrate?
and i could do it, i could just take a hole saw and drill a few holes in the side and stuff with polyfill, there might be a little plastic shavings that fall on the substrate but thats all.
I mean how many holes do i need to make? just like 2 because the container isn't that big.
I think i am gonna drill two holes on each side and then just saran wrap the top of it and black tape the sides. what do you think?

if you closeup to your substrate, does it look like this (without the green)?

i can't be sure, but your coir looks a bit soggy! if it looks like the pic, get some holes in there, fill with polyfill and give it some airflow and the excess moisture from the substrate should dissipate into the air and your substrate colonize completely. just keep an eye out for contams in the meantime!

i don't see any contams and don't expect any, i am get some holes and fill them with polyfil, should i do this asap or wait for the substrate to colonize first?
also where can I get polyfil? wal mart?
is two holes, one on each side enough? and also I need to take the top off and put saran wrap over the top for light correct? It just needs 12 hours of indirect just like a fc right?
But i don't start light until full colonization, right?

yes you can get polyfil at wal-mart it's over in the crafts section
the amount of holes you need depends on how big they are really..
two large enough holes will be sufficient
it really doesn't even need 12 hours
no, you don't start until full colonization
go ahead and duct tape up the sides or you'll get side pinning later which can turn really nasty and ruin your project i suggest duct taping around and well above the substrate level just to reduce any reflections

I agree with the above post. You can leave the tub alone for now, because you are still fostering colonization. When you are ready to fruit, cut the holes, stuff them with polyfill, and go to town. Plastic shaving shouldn't matter too much. They aren't ideal, but you'll be fine

sweet! this all sounds positive. I am looking to finally get a decewnt yield, i only got about 10 dried grams from my last casing only 22 mushies. all small.
I have heard that you get a yield of the wet mushrooms to the weight of your colonized substrate. 1lb of colonized substrate should net me 1.6 oz of dried mushrooms.

Those last two pics don't look right to me. They should be whiter than that - not grayish.
We need better pics.

hey its not my "mums" i just don't have a digital camera. yeah i know it sucks but its better than these post where people try to describe things that you really need a picture to even anwser thier questions. it is not gray, its white. I looked today and its colonizing nicely still. I figure it will be fully colonized within a week.
