Using Substrate as Casing

Alright, as I've posted previously I ordered the starter kit from MushBox, received it today (thanks mush), inocculated 6 of the 12 jars with 2 cc's a piece. Now I have 6 unused jars with no spore solution.
The starter pack came with perlite, but I'm more thinking about doing a casing for better results. Now here's the question, could I use the remaining 6 jars as a casing layer?

perlite is for humidity in the terrerium. I suppose you could use the jars as casing but it would be best to just dunk and roll the cakes since this is your first grow.
*edit* also 2cc per jar is overkill. you could have used that whole syringe for all 12 jars.

You don't want to use a substrate as a casing layer. The casing should be non-nutritive.

A casing layer is only to add moisture.
The reason it is non nutritous is because this is the number one trigger for pinning!
If there are nutes left for the mycelium to consume, then those parts of the colony will not pin.
Just because myceliun is overtaking something IE a "actual" casing layer, doesnt mean it is consuming it.
That is why those little feeler mycelium come poking out of the casing layer. It is looking for some "actual" food.
Not to mention that a layer of grain is a landing zone for contams to bloom.
Casing layers are PH adjusted to not allow contam spores to take hold. Your grain casing would be contamed in a matter of days.

You only needed to shoot 1/4 ml into each hole in the substrate jars. Thats 1 ml per jar. You may be in danger of over-saturating your substrate.
I would not use the jars for casings as they are better utilized for growing straight off the cakes.

u definatly do not want to use a nuitricious substrate as a casing, this will contaminate as there is plenty of food for moulds and bacteria to feed of. Try leaving some substrate in a jar for a few days withou sterilising and see what happens.

I only had a 10cc syringe from spores 101, but will do Mush. I kept having trouble getting the spore solution to come out of the syringe. Had to keep shaking it. I did do all of my inocculations in a glove box though, so I should be ok (so I hope).
In anycase, I will definately go through MushBox again, crazy speedy delivery.

Update
5 of 6 jars are showing colonization with the rhizo myc. The last jar still shows no sign of mycelium, but I may have forgot to innoc it, I was pretty high that day:)
