Thermal Death?

I inoculated 11 1/2 pint jars with B+ spores and put them into my incubator. I had to move my incubator setup to a different spot due to possible contam issues and didn't realize the temperature difference between the two rooms. When I checked on the temperature a few hours after moving the box the temp had jumped from 77 to 98 inside the incubator. No mycelium growth had started in the jars yet, and the temp only got up to 98 degrees not 106 but....should I be worried?

Worry? I wouldn't let it stress me out. If you don't see any growth within 10 days of inoculation, you may want to think about doing more jars.

I recommend room temperature for colonization. If your house is in the mid 70's, you're fine. Incubators cause new growers far more trouble than they help.
Thermal death does not occur at 106F, despite published reports otherwise. I routinely pour 130F hot agar over established mycelium in petri dishes, and have never killed the mycelium yet. Perhaps an extended time at high temperatures would be fatal, but not short periods. RR

^ Agreed. (on the incubators part)
My results with colonizing at room temps thus far have been signifigantly less contaminations and seemingly more potent flushes. (Not to mention not having to worry about a thermodynamic device in a plastic tub full of water on the second floor awaiting queue for murphy's law)

Awesome, thanks, that helps a lot. I was worried I'd have to go buy more spores, but I guess they shoud be fine.
And I've already done away with any external heating souce after the temperature spike. The room the incubator is in now is warm enough by itself, the previouse room wasn't (it had no air vent in it) so I had been forced to use a heating pad just to keep it around 75 degrees in the tank. I think the new set-up will work much better.

If it's comfortable to you, it will be comfortable to them.
