I want to be a DJ.....

I've decided i want to get into being a DJ. Like with turntables and a mixer and stuff.
I've never tried any sort of equipment like this, and i have no experience in this area. But, i think i would like it.... i need some advice.
Anyone out there Dj? i dont know really what piece of equipment is right for begineers such as myself. I've been looking around on the internets for some good info, and i wanted to see what my fellow shroomies think.

I tried to be a dj 3 weeks ago. This week, I am a Zen Buddhist though.
Traktor 3 is a good program to use. Psilobudz, i think that is his name, posted a link to a full version of the program a couple weeks back.

I saw del in Colorado... he came on like two hours late and when he got on he was ridiculously fucked up. I'm surprised he was even able to pull together a performance, although it was still pretty bad ass.

Yea whenever he is on stage you can see zero eye. First time I saw him, he and A-Plus were drinkin patron straight outta the bottle and I was right up front and shook his hand and he reeked of some skunky skunk.

DJ'ing is great fun, just go for it man, you won't regret it.
The NUMBER ONE piece of advice I can give you is DON'T BUY SHIT TURNTABLES. Spend at least £400 ($800) on decks. Mixer, at this stage, is fairly irrelevant so just get the cheapest you can if you're skint.
Don't skimp on turntables though, you really need decent direct drives, I recommend either Numark TT500's/TTX's or second hand Technics. Fuck the MP3 software and CDJs, don't get me wrong they're great tools but nobody wants to listen to a digital DJ. I don't care if I spark a flame war here, if you want to be a real DJ you need to at least have SOME practice at spinning vinyl.
Its just a financial commitment. Vinyl is what, £5 or $10 per record?- so its a long term commitment.
Go for it man, its really rewarding mixing your favourite tunes

I spent 14 years of my life regularly playing out and putting together mixes, the more layered ones with 2 decks a mixer, a reel to reel and a splicing block. Software wise I have been a fan of Tractor and played out with it a few times since I 'retired'.
Just been playing with MixMeister Fusion for the last few hours. What can I say, my god what can I say about that bit of software. I have been waiting a long time for something like that. It is the DOGS BOLLOCKS!!!! (which in England means very good!!)
Brilliant, inspired, genius, awesome. No no wait it's better than that. It's, it's, shit I can't find any more words!!!!
Wow, Love it!!!!
Edit: go to http://www.mixmeister.com/ and click 'Take the tour' to see what I'm taking bout.
