If Owsley was prosacuted in 1967 and only given 3 years for having 350,000 doses and have distributed over double that before and Leonard Pickard got double life sentences without parole when charged in 2000? Has the stipulations increased that much in the a small amount of time? If so, thats fuckin bull..

You need to read up on history. In the 80's, the evil satan's drug known as "crack" was an "epidemic". This lead to the creation of two fundamental changes in drug law...mandatory minimums...and confiscation of personal property "associated" with drug crimes.
This created a self sustaining industry who's product is the incarceration of a significant percentage of our citizens.
Pickard is just paying the price for the good times John Belushi and Len Bias had.

What has been said above about harsher drug penalties and mandatory minimum sentences coming about in the 80's is true. In addition to this, the controlled substances act along with the DEA did not exist until the Nixon administration came along in 1969; the act itself being passed in 1970 (3 years following Owsley's incarceration.)
Could have just been good timing, however mass distributors (and I mean MASS) such as Owsley might have been part of the inspiration for the nations initiative to 'jump on the drug problem' in the first place. My bet's on the latter.

yea.. but if someone really wanted to do something of mass potential, you could easily acquire chems. from multiple sources and for legit reasons in person instead of the net and if they kept their mouth shut, did it and then got rid of it fast, WITHOUT telling someone THEY synthed it.. it could work.. The law seems pretty far away to me from a certain view point. If you can keep your secret, no reason you'd get caught right?

Wrong. Obviously people have been caught. To say that to just get in,lay low, distribute, get out, and then not expect your cover/secret to be blown would be naive. There are exceptions to everything of course. Mass manufacture of LSD is a very risky business I would assume, especially in this day and age. The question you would have to ask yourself is if you are willing to literally put your life on the line to do it.
