A beginner with questions...

Hi
I'm overwhelmed by all the information on this site there is simply so much from FAQ, guides and search results so I thought perhaps people could take pity on me and answer some questions with links to the articles I need but can't seem to find...
1. Where are guides, hopefully with pictures, of exactly what to do with a spore print? That is to say how to take a print and make syringes.
2. What is the difference between growing in glass jars as cakes and growing in those flat tray setups? Could someone please provide some links to tray tutorials
3. What are the limits of a spore print? I have ordered some single spore prints, what exactly can be done with these? Are they a finite resource? I'm assuming once a mushroom comes to fruition I can make my own prints and not have to buy again?
Sorry to everyone I am completely new to this. Don't feel you have to answer anything other than with a link you might have handy...

"A beginnert with a question" is kinda vague
Please be more specific with your topics in the future.

It is beginner and kind of
Anyway, back to the original poster.
The cakes in jars are a one step process, just make the cakes, inoculate, wait until full colonization, and then birth and fruit, all in one object, that cake.
Casings, which are those tray things as you call them, require more steps. You have to make a substrate, or be even more complicated and make spawn (a small amount of substrate, normally grains) and mix the spawn with some kind of bulk substrate and wait for that to colonize. Then you place a layer of humidity retaining, non nutritious material on top. That is your casing layer.
This second method has the advantage of bigger yields but has a lot more steps that can go wrong as it is more complicated, and also takes a bit longer.
For personal consumption (and a few friends) cakes will serve you fine, but as soon as you get hooked on this hobby you will feel the urge to grow huge seas of shrooms and probably give casings a try.

I actually tried to make a spore print just like that, and it was so humid in the jar that my caps actually grew mold on them. DONT DO IT

In whatever container you use to make the print, remember to leave the lid loose to let humidity escape or the cap will rot

Thanks for all the replies.
I have a new question which will probably top all the others for king of the stupid hill.
Why not use shallow glass dishes/trays instead of jars/cups when making a PF cake... assuming you ignore it being a trickier shape to handle wouldn't the end result be just a different shaped cake with a much larger surface area similar to a casing?

It is possible to use other containers that are not jars, i have seen various sizes and shapes of glasses been used, and even larger tubs.
As long as the moisture content is right, good gas exchange. It will work, colinisation of bigger containers with the pf tek are more likely to stall than 1/2 pints.
More surface area doesnt really mean more shrooms, the myc can only produce as much as the nutrients will allow. No nutrients left no mushrooms.
