is it possibly to sterilize my jars 100% without using a PC. i know its best to have one but if i can boil my jars in a pot until i get the swing of things, i might hold off on spending $$$ on a PC. So is this do-able? what temp would the water have to be at during the one hour wait? thanks!

its fine for BRF (PF Tek) but not for grains. boil them for an hour.. boiling water is 230f (100C) keep them there for at least an hour

ok good. and the boiling water SHOULD NOT be boiling erradically so that it bubbles ontop of the jars, correct?

a rolling boil is best.. put foil over the jar if your worried about water getting in.
Also add a little salt to the water, it will boil at a higher temp (little trick)

If you're trying to sterilize substrate that is in jars, the jars should be elevated totally out of the water to prevent water getting in through the gas exchange/inoculation holes. The steam above the water line will sterilize the jars, provided the pot has a tight fitting lid. Steam for 90 minutes to two hours after the steam begins escaping from around the edges of the kettle's lid. Add water as needed to keep the pot from boiling dry. RR

But before you do all that,.... You should check this out.
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/search.php
No offense, but this is a once a week question. You would be amazed at how much more you learn searching posts, and reading responses, than you do just asking a question. Not to mention all the threads that will catch your eye while searching. It is just the best way to learn. And usually the fastest.
Good Luck!
