I never believed it, but I finally witnessed it with my own eyes. Myc. does eat through aluminum pans.

i wonder if it eats aluminum, if it LIKES it?? RR proved that it does not get into the fruits.. but does it like aluminum?

I doubt it's the mycelium. My guess is it's the metabolites disolving the holes. RR

Yes, the metabolites are antibiotic for defense against bacteria, but they are also solvents that help break down the substrate material, making it available to the mycelium. My tests showed that Shiitake fruits didn't have measurable amounts of aluminum in them, even though the tray was full of holes. Whether those results apply to other species or not has yet to be proved. RR

"Is aluminum bad if ingested? " by humans .. yes...
Well RR, we have to decide if the MYC are defending themselves from, or eating the aluminum.
since aluminum is an element, it would be easy to assume (since its not in the fruit) that the MYC is NOT eating it, however one would have to test the myc to be sure...

Which is what I just did, and posted the results of the testing. Mushroom fruit bodies are 100% mycelium. They're part and parcel of the same cell lines that colonize the substrate. RR

He posted it a week or so ago, when you weren't around for a couple of days Slimz.
it's funny how a couple of days not logging on can make you miss stuff like this with the size of this forum.
Since mycelium eats by secreting it's "stomach acid" outside and then sucking up the decomposed material, it is hardly surprising that a highly reactive metal such as aluminium would be corroded.
