Does your vote count?
    #7721510 - 12/05/07 07:42 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

In a two party system where you aren't even allowed to vote in the preliminaries?

the primaries are held as a way for the major parties to pick their strongest candidate. unless you're affiliated with them, you don't vote in their primary.

you can vote for whomever you want in the general election, regardless of the outcome of the primaries.

i'm not sure what you're asking.

In some states, you can vote in either parties primaries. Depends on if your state has closed or open primaries and some states just allow registered independents to vote in their parties primaries, if they are not registered with the party itself.

Check with your state.

Other parties for whatever reason, do not hold primary elections to help decide on their parties nominee to run.

What sucks about our system is that the other major 3rd party nominees, and Independents are no longer invited to the the televised debates on the MSM. Perot was the last we will see of that, the two parties made sure of it.

I can't vote even though I am a US citizen because I don't live in the country.  Lazy has nothing to do with it.

Half the people blame the democrats, half the people blame the republicans, and the politicians laugh all the way to the bank, hand in hand.

uh yeah. the better question to ask is: does your vote count when you are to apathetic to realize your vote does count but you decide it doesn't so you stay home on election day like an idiot? the answer is people who are apathetic and don't vote have no say in the election while people who do vote have a say.

I guess what I'm saying is that your vote doesn't count because your choices are so limited from the outset.

Abstaining from voting is a form of activism.

I'm not going to defend voting, because I don't think it works, especially with this digital crap...

but your statement is a joke. you can believe it if you want, but just think hard about that one.

NO!
Hillary Clinton will be president in 2008 and for 8 years
8 years of Bush.
8 years of Clinton.
8 years of Bush.
And 8 years of Hillary Clinton.

this may not be right.
But if it is.
your vote does not count.

You are wrong. Not voting sends a message to those willing to look for it.

An apathetic youth means that their is something very wrong with the system.

I'm Canadian, and I feel the same way about our political system. Two party, multi-party, whatever. The system is so flawed at the bottom that I don't feel as if I have any real choice.

The popular vote doesn't really matter in the end anyway... which totally confuses me.

Reagrdless of if your vote counts it is your duty to vote. Your country keeps you safe, provided you with a free education, and secures your way of life. If you don't want to vote, move to communist China where the government decides everything for you.

Also if you don't vote you can't complain about the government.

What bothers me is that there is no way of really knowing if the elections are fixed or not.  There have been so many shenanigans in these last elections, and we have been under a two-family dynasty for many years........ :tinfoil:

Do you have any evidence that the elections are fixed? Do you realize how extensive such an undertaking would be? Do you doubt for a second that the media-with its concern for sensationalism above all things-would fail to make headlines of such a scandal for years?

I know that a lot of people may doubt our politicians, but you have to keep in mind a lot of people running for office are making personal sacrifices. Most of them could land a high-paying job in the market almost immediately-instead they spend all their time kissing babies, and dealing with more or less ungrateful constituencies. People in America really have no idea how lucky they are to be born in a free country.

I dont think it made any sense at all.  How does a politician making personal sacrifices equal people not knowing how lucky they are to be here?  And how does that have anything to do with fraudulent voting?

Welcome to the shroomery nonetheless
