are you going to be covering the sides with dark plastic at all? I'd be worried about side pinning...

Soo, I've been looking into casing mixes, and it looks like there are some teks that have you apply a casing layer when you first spawn, and some teks that have you case after the substrate is colonized.
What would the difference be between the two methods?
Oh, and here's an update on my grow on day 3. These things are colonizing pretty damn fast. I think I will go ahead and case tomorrow or the next day. The top layer is mosr colonized because I spread extra WBS spawn on the top as a contam barrier.

By the way, I just realized this thread would be better off in the Grow Log forum. If a mod could move it there that would be great!

you can case before or after pining but in either case, case once the substrate has fully colonized.

Cased with pasteurized Jiffy mix (the type with verm) roughly two weeks ago. Casing colonization was a little slow, probably due to my casing being too wet. Put into FC about a week ago.
Temps: 74-78 Humidity: >95%
I have a cool mist running pretty much all the time, and an air pump running about half the time. 2 CFLs at a 12/12 schedule. The casing layer seems to dry out easily so I mist a couple times every day with a spray bottle.
One of the casings got trich, so it's down to four. And they're pinning!
This is my homemade martha they are fruiting in. PVC and plastic sheeting.

This one isn't pinning on one side. I don't know why. Just gonna wait it out.

How does this pinset look to you, honestly? These are my first casings so I don't have a lot of first hand experience with casing pinsets.

I just took a peek at the sides, and CRAP. Side pins galore. I went ahead and took them out of the containers.
What's the best way to ensure that these stay hydrated now that they are not in their own enclosure?

I would have been patient and waited for the rest to catch up. You're going to have to mist indirectly a lot. You're going to have to treat it like a giant cake. Hope it doesn't loose too much moisture from the sides. That's a lot of surface area.

Welp, one of the casings had a ton of side fruits.

Went ahead and picked all those. 550g wet! Yeah! I was afraid I wouldn't get that much with such small mushrooms.

But now I am faced with a problem..I have a great pinset on the rest of the casings, but the fruits are maturing very early.

A few of those caps have opened already, and the rest seem pretty close to being done. I am pretty unhappy with how small the fruits are looking. I have constant FAE, >95% humidity, and proper lighting. My only guess is that the casings are too dry. I went ahead and poured a glass of water on top of each one and let it soak in. Hopefully this will allow those fruits to grow a little bigger.
I am going to dunk before the next flush.
Any input would be greatly appreciated! =0)
