Cutting from casings cakes etc....
    #7719540 - 12/05/07 12:37 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

After a little bit of a debate in the chat I was curious as to what happens if in a casing or cake w/e instead of plucking the mushroom out you cut it very near the base. Does this open up it up for contams or possibly something grow from it ?

Technically your finger tips/nails could be more prone to bacteria, etc. But for some reason I've only heard of people using their fingers. Curious what everyone will say.

do ppl do it?
yes
why?
its a lil less damaging to the myc network

the contam issue is that you are leaving behind a part of the fruit that cant grow anymore and will start to decompose as it is reabsorbed into the network
usully if you have a strong enough network you can do this but it kinda seems like a waste of time to me especialy when you have a large bulk and its takes like a half hour to pick them all anyway lol

so then it would be better to cut each mushroom at the base?

It has been implied that cutting mushrooms would leave a rotting stump which would be bad any thoughts?
