my substrate is horse poo/straw. my spawn is wbs. the substrate was fully colonised, at least i think it was, prior to casing. my casing is mainly peat/verm with some coir, limestone, gypsum and hydrated lime. my ph was 7.8 - 8. i cased about two days ago. should i see some casing penetration by this time? or am i being impatient? just to paint a picture i let my substrates colonize fo 10 days before casing. my substrate was definitely fully colonised on top. there's no way to check the middle. the top was colonised fully after 6 days as well. does the whole substrate need to colonise before pinning will begin?

If your bulk substrate was fully colonized on top by day 6, the entire substrate should be fully colonized by day 10.
2 days is not much for casing layer colonization. Give it a few more days. I like to wait until about 30% of my casing layer is colonized before introducing fruiting conditions. Check it again in 2 or 3 days.

well I don't know a huge amount about casing as I'm so new it hurts. I do read a LOT though and I think this link may be of service...

It's fahtsters late casing tek. He seems to know what he's doing so I'd give this a try next time. You should see good results I'd imagine... so long as everything else is in good order.
