Can you keep a BRF/Verm cake thats sterelized without innoculating it? Because I made them yesterday and my spores are coming today.. would it be okay to inoculate the allready made mixture or throw them out and make new ones

I did the same thing. I PC'ed my jars then they sat for 2 months. I inoculated them and they were fine. Dont know how long they last though.

they can stay good for an indefinate ammount of time. just wrap em in plastic wrap or foil to make sure nothing evaporates out. i have about 20 jars in plastic wrap right now.

I think the jars, if left long enough, would eventually get some form bacterial contamination. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think it is possible for some of the endospores to survive PCing. So eventually if it found an uncolonized area in the jar it could gain hold over time. So really what we are doing is reducing the bacterial load enough that it can never take over the substrate fast enough to beat the mycelium.
Contamination is a brute force operation, we could never eliminate every single bacterial or viral pathogen.
Cheers

yeah they will be fine. i pressure cooked two dozen BRF jars and left them to sit for about two weeks before i got off my stoner ass to inoculate them. they are all fruiting now. well except for two.

I boiled (not even sterilized in the pressure cooker) 12 PF jars not long ago and kept them in a closet for over two weeks before innoculating. They all worked fine, no contams.
Just remember to leave the tape on so they don't dry out.

yea main thing about storing jars is to wrap em in plastic to prevent moisture loss. (presterilized jars ordered come this way)

Okay sounds good.. I hope I have enough moisture.. I took a bowl put 1 cup of verm, 1/2 cup of water and 1/2 cup of BRF and mixed it all together in that order..

That mix is the standard formula and will be fine, just keep them holes covered.
P.S. Heavens Slimz, you are touchy today.
