Terrarium design and airflow questions
    #7718443 - 12/05/07 04:11 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

First off I want to say this site has yielded a lot of beneficial info into my new project.

I’ve been researching here and other places and can’t seem to find the answers I’m looking for.

I’m trying to develop a terrarium that is enclosed and contained within a nontransparent container, like a wood chest that is waterproofed where ever it contacts high humidity. I have the woater proofing part figured out, and will post the design when I have it complete. The box will have 2 chambers, a small dry side and the other wet. What I’m trying to figure out is a good way to vent the CO2 without opening the wet side to vent. Would it be possible to use a small hole on the lower portion of the box to remove CO2 but not a large amount of humidity, or would it be best to use a small PC fan to blow air into the chamber via a one way valve set up, with one valve going in and one going out so it is sealed better when the fan is not running. I’d like to keep the whole thing as simple as possible as far as electronic devices are concerned.

As far as spraying I thinking of using a pressurized bottle mister with the bottle on the dry side and the nozzle in the lid of the chamber.

For light a small fluorescent light mounted to the inside top of the box just above the Plexiglas cover of the chamber, which will be secured in place to contain the humidity.

If I'm way off base here don't be afraid to let me know. I'm a newb and not afraid to admit it.

Thanks in advance for any input.

Ott
