The bedding material is straw typically a good substrate, many vendors sell straw mixed with horse dung already. But most find pure poo yields better for cubenis strains so they prefer all dung mixes. Anyways when you break up horse poop it looks like straw because they eat hay, grasses, some horses will even eat the bedding straw. Just like if you were to eat only corn all the time you can imagine what your shit would look like.

It's fine to use. Possibly just aged/broken down more than the rest?

taste it.. just kidding.. i don't really think theres a sure way to test it unless you have access to some CSI shit. If you're up to it you should do a controlled experiment to test each little circle of poo in the pic to see which one yields the better fruits. Could be an interesting grow log.

that's just broken down poo. it gets like that becasuse the horses step on it while in their stables. they break the poo up like that. it's good to use and it's also broken down already so less time and effort. you can almost be gauranteed that there's straw mixed in, since they have heaps of it on the floor as well.

During my forays through the forum I've heard that one has to leach urine from the poo before using it as a substrate. That or you should actually smell the stuff you plan on using and just avoid anything reeking of urine.

OH! and one more thing... somewhere, someone said that the old white nuggets from the field are reported as being optimal due to an actual, get this, a beneficial bacteria (what makes poo turn white, not weathering as one would suppose).

Man, I have seen cyans grow on some pretty crappy horse poop, pun intended. Actually, I have found from asking questions that if you have things other than poo it is alright, but some pan cyan strains just won't fruit so prominently with other nutes in there.
