Haha, Brain Age?

I think getting in a good argument (especially in person) is the best exercise for the mind. Has to be somebody that is a good arguer also, though. Can't be one-sided.

I do that a lot.

Now I'm an egotistical asshole know-it-all.

I'm just a little opinionated..

arguments are not healthy for the mind at all. logic is a good way, philosophy, and using your mind, coordination, ect.

They say logic puzzles and sudoku keep the analytical mind in good shape. Experts recommend them for old people to stay sharp.

Nothing is as good as reading, IMO. The sharpest people I know read a lot. The dullest people I know don't read.

I agree with SheerTerror that arguing is not a healthy activity. It reinforces prejudices and self-righteousness. You don't learn anything by trying to convince somebody you are right.

i've got no citations for this, this is just how i've always seen it: when you're reading you're analysing the text, appreciating the wording used, the writing style, the way things are described. then you have the thought process following the storyline, guessing ahead, reasoning why the character did as he did, etc. and then you have the creativity of creating images in your head to go along with the story, adding details to the picture, creating amazing stillshots.

that's how it's aways been for me anyway. Plus you can get into the writers head, and gain his/her way of viewing the world. more points of view, you can comprehend and follow, the easier tasks, especially of a social nature, become and people start describing you as intelligent.
