if developing shrooms are exposed to the light from a light bulb constantly, will it hinder growth? should they be kept in complete darkness until harvest?

Light is a pinning trigger.
During colonisation the general consensus is to keep jars in the dark, but old hands such as RR just keep their jars/bags on a shelf in light.
When you start pinning, it is convenient to have a light source to help induce the pinning. Also as mushrooms are phototropic, they grow towards the light, so if there is no light they grow all over the place.
The best light for pinning is white light, which has temperatures of around 6000k, which a normal lightbulb will not give. You would need a fluorescent or compact fluorescent light for that.
So basically, light in no way will harm anything, and applied correctly

Normal room lighting has no effect on colonizing mycelium, either good or bad. RR

so would CFL improve the growing conditions compaired to normal room light coming from a window? If so what power CFL do you recommend?
(compact fluorescent light)

what about lighting during the fruiting process? should a fluorescent light be on 24/7 or in cycles?

There are many discussion about light, both duration and type. Do some searching. And elnico the LED's is still being researched, most old hands say "Bad monkies!!" most of the people with LED's say "But it looks so cool!"
