What makes a good substrate
    #7717456 - 12/04/07 09:05 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

Me and a friend of mine were discussing what makes a good substrate. I understand that it must be nutrient rich but what else plays a factor?
He dips and was wondering if hypothetically used dip would be a possible substrate just a thought.

Tobacco is a natural fungicide. I've tried growing on it without success. Mycelium won't colonize tobacco.

A nasty habit, I played football in highschool and seemed like everyone dipped except me. They talked me in on getting a dip on the way home from a game one night.. They thought it would be funny to try and make me sick..didn't work..although I became very lightheaded.

I had the same thought a while back. not with tobacco but with other random things like during haloween I was wondering if I could use the insides of the pumpkin I was carving. Or could I throw a tomatoe or block of cheese... there are just so many possibilities.

It would be perfect if you could use pumpking guts. I couldn't think of a better way to recycle.
