When can I get one? Thanks for showing us that video. I feel that the creation of the singularity, limited functions of time travel like ones described in that video, and advanced space travel will happen during our lifetimes. Can't wait.

seems to me like if time travel were possible, someone would have come back by now. but in this video, he says things will only be able to come back to the time the machine was turned on.

Or they realized the implications of time travel and decided not to do it.

No, I highly doubt that. We couldn't get everyone to agree on it...some people, at some point in time, will decide to time-travel whatever the risks or implications.

Once, men turned their thinking over to machines in the hope that this would set them free. But that only permitted other men with machines to enslave them.

It seems likely that only a very powerful and wealthy organization with many scientists under their employ would be able to create such a device( ie a government or very large corporation which would no doubt be under a very watchful eye) for the foreseeable future and by the time a common person has any inkling of ability to 'time travel' he wouldn't be interested in visiting such archaic times as ours. This is really pointless to argue about. I doubt either of us will ever know the truth about this for quite awhile.

If anyone wants to read a great fiction novel about time travel you should try "Lightning" by Dean Koontz. I am re-reading it right now (first read it in the early 90s). Its one of the most unique stories I've found relating to time travel and the twists in the story line are great when you begin to realize what is happening.

When I first glanced at this thread in the forum list, I thought I saw it in the Gathering forum. I was like, "Is someone throwing a gathering in the Renaissance?"

if a time machine was built, as soon as it became functional someone/something from the future should appear immediately, right? that's what i have always thought.
is there anywhere i can read about time travel and all it's paradoxes. i love thinking about time travel, it's possibilities and implications.
if (controllable)time travel were possible(and i like to believe it is), i bet people would've already come back to check out hitler or the discovery of the new world or the krakatoa eruption of 1883 or some other event of similar significance.
