Police find mobile meth lab in trunk of car at gas station

SHEPHERDSVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) -- Law enforcement officials in Bullitt County police seized a mobile meth lab Monday afternoon containing volatile chemicals -- and it was right next to a gas pump. It happened on Highway 44, near the Shepherdsville exit at a Shell Station across from an elementary school.
Investigators say they were following 39-year-old Matthew Martin and 32-year-old Ramos Robinson when the two pulled over for gas. The drug task force members tailing them immediately asked them to get out of the car.
Bullitt County Drug Task Force Director Kenny Hardin said the suspects knew they were in danger. "We pulled one of them out and he indicated there could possibly be something in the trunk that was dangerous, and he was correct. We looked in the trunk and it was in fact a mobile meth lab."
A task force detective immediately pulled the car away from the pump. It took three hours to neutralize active ingredients in the trunk.
The two men were taken to the Bullitt County Jail.
Unfortunately, police say mobile meth labs are a growing trend.

and why doesnt it state why they where after the guys in the first place?

my thoughts too
1. what the hell are active ingredients? are we talking pharmaceuticals here? 2. what does neutralize mean?
Most likely the cops called some GED-educated boys who know about enough chemistry to look up in a book if a substance is an oxidizer, reducer, halogenated, or particularly volatile, and put it in the correct container... dangerous buisness

Maybe its just the fact that law enforcement is just really stupid in Kentucky?

Part of the problem... most clandestine labs don't follow osha regulations in labeling everything. Before it can be neutralized, or even moved, it has to be tested to know what it is. This takes time.
Yet another reason why all drugs should be legalized... I have no problem with people doing chemistry at home, but it should be done in a real (home) lab, with real lab equipment, following real lab protocols; all for safety reasons. Most people that make meth wouldn't bother if they could go to the pharmacy and legally pick up a few grams.

yeah, it kind of goes that way for heroin addicts in the UK, they are testing out giving them legal heroin (they use it for pain relief and its no their equivalent of schedule one) which is totally pure, much much safer, and they dont buy it off the streets where its not, and they dont have to pay high street prices so a lot of them stop stealing and prostituting themselves to pay for it.
