installing a wireless network card, what a pain in the ass
    #7713818 - 12/04/07 01:30 AM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I helped someone install a wireless network card... and I hoped it woulnd't be this frustrating:tongue:
After putting the (PCI) card in the computer I turn on the computer and it recognizes a wireless ethernetcard. great, it found it... but when installing the drivers from the cd that came with the card it sais device not found. So Windows found the card, but the stupid software that came with the card doen't and now it doesn't work because windows can't load the drivers in it's memory or something:confused:

HELP!!

ps this is the card: ICIDU Wireless PCI-Card 11G

pps I called the helpdesk: they said that I should try to put in in another pci slot... hope that works (hope there still is another pci slot:p)

They gave you good advice. Try that

Some other ideas,

Go into Device Manager, find the card and delete it. After that, click to search for new hardware.

I have had trouble with this in the past as well. With some of the cards its important that you follow the directions very closely.

Were you supposed to install the card prior to running the set-up disc? I’m thinking perhaps not.

If that stuff doesn’t work I’ll try to think of some more ideas for you to try.

Try going to the manufactures website for the latest drivers. Make sure they match your operating system.

first I just tried to install the card automatically, without reading the instructions ofcoarse:smirk:

then I read the instructions when the card didn't work and it said click 'cancel' when the new hardware wizard appears:tongue:

The I deleted the card from device manager and did everything according to the instructions, within the device manager the card is properly named, but not working properly because of the mentioned reason in my first post. I'll try to put the card in another slot first..

ps toddo, the manufacturers website only have flash drivers (for usb device I think?)

that seems odd, unless your friend bought a POS network card it's pretty standard to find all the device drivers on the manufacturers website.

Here's something you can do, when you install the card have you tried using the wizard to search MS's database of compatible drivers? You might find something that works that way.

Does the driver disc come with a setup file (setup.exe) or just the drivers? Are you specifying what location to search for the driver?

sometimes it is better to install the software for the card, then turn off the computer, install the hardware for the card, turn computer back on, and your set...thats how ive always done it atleast...

peace
