Numbness/tingling on back [Serious problem?]
    #7713178 - 12/03/07 10:04 PM (16 years, 4 months ago)

I got into a car accident a while back. As a result I started going to physical therapy. About 2 months later I'm still going to therapy, but maybe a week or two back I started developing this numbness and tingling in the middle of my back. I don't know if it's bad or it's just my body healing. I know that people who are paralyzed are "numb" and have no feeling. It might just be my mind playing tricks on me, but I felt today as if the area got larger. Scary part is, this is the same area that hurt me and the main reason why I began to seek physical therapy. I told my chiro about it and he didn't say anything, but he did do some extra "work" on my back and some other "exercises" (it's hard to explain, basically stretching and cracking my back in a million different places).

So yeah, is my back fucked or is it just healing?

you may have a herniated or bulging disc. sometimes all the symptoms dont show up right away.

Numbness/tingling in your back (or radiating into an extremity) is not a sign of healing.

surprised your Chiro didnt seem concerned. actually, i am not. i mean, regardless of your symptoms, the Chiro only has one gun in his arsenal.

if you have insurance, maybe get an MRI.

Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?

I've had an MRI, and I do have a bulging disc. It hurt at first, and then everything was fine, and now it's numb. Is that normal?

I highly doubt that it's a good thing.

your "pain" may have been muscular in nature, but now that the muscles are no longer spasming or inflamed, you may know be experiencing the bulging disc pressing up on an exiting nerve root.

many disc bulges and herniations heal on their own, give it some time.

I haven't done anything I can think of the aggravate it. In fact I've been trying to sit as proper as I can so it will heal faster but I guess it only got worse. I'm going to lie down and tomorrow I'll try and get an definite answer from my chiro. Thanks for the help.
