soaking rye with hot water, hydrating process

alright so I'm going on my third attempt with growing rye and really want to get the hydration down right this time after reading numerous posts, I decided to soak them in hot tap water with a little coffee (not grounds, the liquid) for 24 hours I literally just did this about 15 minutes ago RR said that the grains soak up a noticeably more amount of water when soaking with hot water
my question is this: if the rye is soaked for 24 hours with hot tap, does it need to be simmered still? I haven't seen any clear comments on this and any help would be appreciated
also - if I do simmer, should I aim for 1 in 10 kernels cracked or play it safe with none? last time I played it safe, stopping the simmer a tad early to prevent busted kernels and they hardly colonized at all, I believe they were to dry.
one more thing, previous to this attempt I had been adding the rye to already boiling water. from posts I've recently read this causes kernels to bust more easily, so this time around I'm going to drain soaked water, add cold tap water to the rye and then bring to boil
help and comments would be much appreciated, really want to get it right this time around

yes you want them to soak in hot tap water for 24 hrs. try adding gypsum to your soak water.
after the soak simmer the grains for 10 mins in their soak water then strain in a collander until the grains are dry on the outside. the water you want is inside the grains anyways. you can make sure they are dry enough by doing what rr does and place some on a piece of toilet paper and if they dont leave any water behind they are good to load.
if you soak for 24 hrs then simmer for 10 in the soak water you shouldnt have any burst kernals.
are you keeping the metal lid on the jars while they are colonizing?
this happened to me recently where i only used a filter disk and not the metal lid and my grains dried out. just a thought.

thanks for the input I will try that TP trick, usually I just stick my hands in them and see how many stick
so I should aim for 10 minutes? thanks that really helps me out instead of blindly simmering
as for the lids, yea I keep the metal lids on, with a piece of tyvek over them
oh yea, dont have gypsum on hand sadly, I dont think it makes that much of a difference, does it? thanks again

If you soak overnight, with the soak beginning in hot tap water, you can boil the grains for an hour or two and the kernels won't bust. They also won't take on any more water. Once the kernel is saturated, it doesn't absorb any more, no matter how long you boil.
After the soak, add hot tap water to the soak water if necessary to fill the kettle as full as you can before placing on the stove. Heat to boiling, and then after several minutes, pour the water off. Shake the colanders so the steam can evaporate off the kernels, drying them. That's the main purpose of the boil, besides killing the germinated bacteria before pouring it down the drain. It also gives the grains sort of a pre-sterilization prior to the PC cycle.
Don't skip the gypsum. It's worth a trip to the nursery. RR

thats for the advice rr I suppose I will try boiling it for 5 minutes my grains are already soaking so the gypsum is going to have to wait till next time
