long time searcher, first time poster. Thanks in advance for your time and concern regarding this matter... okay here i go. afoaf is about to embark of the wonderfull world of mushroom cultivation. he has 5 1/2 pt. jars of taz brewing.. 75% done and he is planing to to use a few of these to spawn some dung. He went to a local hardware store and found some organic dehydrated cow manure 2-1-2 (ni., phosphate, soluble potash) with a chlorine maximum of 1.70%. will this do after some pasturazation? also he got some wheat straw to mix in. He's seen a few ppls talk about store brought manure but only the composted kind. Also, tomorrow afternoon he's going to a horse farm to get some ka-ka. The only shit they have for the taking is in a big pile with some bedding mixed in. Will this work? Should the bedding be picked out? maybe he should ask to get fresh shit from a vancent stall and rinse and dry on a tarp? Thanks again

IMO, The stuff with the bedding won't be the right choice since it contains a lot of horse urine and wood shavings (bedding).

The 2-1-2 stuff is not the best choice for indoor growing either.

I would get the fresh stuff and dry it out thoroughly (air dry it) then pasturize it as in Roadkill's horse poo tek.

Buy a bail of hay from a grain/feed store ($5) and run each sleeve over with your lawn mower a couple of times (you can do the same with the horse poo).

What you want to end up with is 50% fine horse poo, 50% chopped hay (1-3").

Shroomies LOVE this stuff!!

Hey Trip... You don't live near a farm... do you? They use Straw for bedding, not wood chips, and it's prestomped by the horses aready. The 50/50 Shit to straw sounds good, but you can get it right from the farms manure pile just like that. The reason for air drying the shit is to get rid of the uric acid in the manure.

BTW... have you ever taken a lawnmower to a big old dry pile of horse shit? NOT A PRETTY SIGHT! Heheheh.

You want the horse shit with the stable shavings in...it's even better than pure horse shit!

As previously mentioned, the maure you've already got isn't the best. It always amuses me they call it organic and then add chlorine!

No, I don't live near a farm, I grew up on a farm with 2 horses, 3 goats, a pony, 10 dogs, 50 chickens and 4 cats.

When I was a kid I used to have the chore of "mucking out the stalls" and replenishing the bedding which was PINE SHAVINGS!!!

Yeah the stuff this kid saw was shit bright light colored shavings. dont know if they were pine or not. so should or shouldnt he grab some? Is this the stuff you use psyconaut? It'll be comming out of a big-ol-pile. if all these shavings are a good additive should he still mix the straw? should he dig down a little into the ass dropping pile for the junk? sorry about all the questions..

I also grew up on a farm, but 10 DOGS!?!? The rest I understand, did you have a kennel? Raise purebreeds? Sorry for the OTD!

We raised purebred Olde English Sheepdogs in addition to my stepmother being the animal officer for the ajacent town... She couldn't help adopting a stray here and there.

Oh yeah, we raised a pig too (for consumption)... His name was "Sir Lunch-a-Lot".

My Pet Rock went to a farm that had a big pile of manure with straw(bedding) mixed in. This didn't seem like it would do, so my pet rock walked around the large pile, finding piles of shit that were either fresh or had been sitting only a little while. See if you can do this same thing. Chances are, you will find piles lying around here and there...

thats exactly what he ended up doing. There was semi fresh shit all over the place where he ended up going. It's pony droppings which, from what i would imagine, is the same as horse turd. He laid it outside on some garbage bags. shoud he wash it down once maybe to rid it of piss or is that what pasturizing is for? How about a pre soak? Anyone.. Anyone.. Oh yeah and in one of the dry dry pieces he notices white stuff inside after he broke it apart. Is this mold ? should he throw it away or will pasturizing it take care of that?

Just let the horse poo dry out.
The amonia from the urine will dry out with the poo.
Don't wash it down before you pasturize it.
Don't presoak the poo.
The white stuff is fine.....it will not be noticable after you pasturize.

Thanks road. its an honor. Im gonna be mixing it with straw so this chit should definitely work eh? Im a first timer but follow directions pretty effin good. Another quick question if you dont mind:: Im going to be pasturizing the shreded straw and dung in different bags. is this a good idea? let them cool overnight, squeeze all/most of the water out mix.. thanks bro

I don't use straw....so go look at mycofiles neglect tek.
I really haven't payed attention to using straw....I promise I'll go read up on it....really. lolzz

I use straight horse poo.
But if I was going to mix them.....I'd mix them after letting them cool.
Horse poo you would squeeze out and let it drip over night to dry out a little.
