yeah but they still haven't popped today, it has been a good few days now. when I pick up the cake it is light and dry.
Should i just mist the cake directly? these cakes have been dunked but not rolled because i had no verm.
i have two other cakes, one of them is growing some nice fluffy mycileum on it all up the sides and top, lots of knotting but no pins. the other as one pin that has grown from 1 cm to 1 inch in over 3 days, its like the growth is at a sloooooww pace. what could cause this? I have had no problems with 2 casings that I have done in the past but this is the first time I have used just cakes.
Does it sound like the cake is too dry? could the cake really run out of water right in the middle of the veil breaking and not have enough water to pop?

If the cake is light, it's dry. Put it in a saucer of water and let it re-hydrate during the flush. RR

it is a half pint cake so i just took a pint jar put like a inch of water in it and sat the cake in there. it is kind of floating a bit but the shrooms are sticking halfway out the top. Will the water wick up to the muchrooms through the cake?

Sitting it in a saucer of water is fine, it will be enough water to help the shrooms on there way, but not near enough to water log it.
I have done this a few times when my cakes started dehydrated, works great.
Dunk submerged in a pot of water using something like a plate to keep it under the water. Not in the glass. The mycelium does not rehydrate by just absorbing the water, you need it under some pressure to allow it to fully rehydrate.
