mycologist average annual salary?
    #7711071 - 12/03/07 01:47 PM (16 years, 1 month ago)

I dont know if this is in the correct forum or not but what does the average mycologist make a year? Ive searched high and low and couldnt find an answer. (Not including any exceptional DVD's to the salary WINK WINK.)

I did some preliminary searching and was dumbfounded at the results. I could not find a single ad for a mycologist that exceeded $65,000! The average salary appears to be $45,000-65,000. I'm pretty sure they spend at least that just for the education!

Wow Im appalled! Yeah I read you need to have a BS in botany. That sounds like 20 to life. Then the price of school. They get boned :frown:

Damn if they got paid what they deserve then we might have had Pan Cyans the size of basketballs.

Study mycology and open your own commercial mushroom farm.

Grow some of the more exotic species and sell to upmarket restaurants.

You know what I already thought about it lol. Im too poor and my credit is too bad. Not enough start up money. But then again you could start real small and grow bigger in time. Id love to slip some Cubensis in with the restraunt mushrooms. Yum Cubensi soup!

if we're talking about exploiting mushies
i might as well say that surely you can get enough start up money by growing cubensis..
it wouldn't take that much initial investment
$3000 would be more than enough to start up a local legit business supplying restaurants and the like

This is a coincidence because Innersight Trading is taking applications for Mycologists at the moment.

We are offering $45,000k - $55,000 a year (depending on experience). It may require some relocation but if you know anyone who is interested then please contact us. I can provide more information of expected duties and tasks upon request.

Well, the day to day grind is all about manufacturing spore syringes, preparing rye, corn, and wood jars and/or bags along with all of the other substrates we sell like substrate jars and compost bags. Manufacturing grow kits and edible culture syringes and plates. etc etc etc.

But we want to put more time into researching and developing new products and improving present recipes and procedures. We also want to expand to selling straight spawn and actual mushrooms from a newly acquired warehouse. Basically there is plenty to do but we are running out of manpower. We have plenty of employees but only 2 really knowledgeable Mycoheads so we are spreading ourselves pretty thin.

I could definitely see a mycologist interested in the R&D portion, but I think you're going to be hard pressed to find a mycologist who is going to do the grunt work, like mixing substrates and assembling grow kits. I think you just need someone who is really experienced, but isn't afraid to get their hands dirty.

I've mixed hundreds of substrate bags and I can tell from experience that it is a tedious task. One that I actually dread doing! Good luck with your search either way.

Lol it depends. If you are "self employed", you could be making thousands. But that's not what shroomery is about...

I'm close to the Bay Area, CA, but I'm no mycologyst.  Good luck in your search!  Sounds like a fun job/career if you ask me

I'm just as guilty as the others, but we need to get back on topic here. If you want to comment about this opportunity Innersight Trading is offering, please visit the following thread:

Thanks.

Laying down the law... Looks like you're running a tight ship here.... Okay well related to this topic I did have an additional comment to add. I think the average pay would be different for a mycologyst depending on the area you're working in. A mycologyst in San Fransisco, CA wouldn't be the same as one in New Jersey. But there's a whole lot of other factors involved too I'm sure (experience/education and what not).

Oh hey, when I clicked on that link it says "We cannot proceed. Access Denied, please use your back button to return to the previous page"

sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I did some extensive searching on Mycologist's salaries and could not find much info at all. I found one classified ad for a job at the University of South Carolina starting at 100K a year! Looks like we will be competing with them for a good Mycologist.
