So the from the beginning of the bible it pretty much tells you that you should live your life totally oblivious to your surroundings and that knowledge is causes pain. That seems like a very enlightened thought for a religious book, almost too enlightened
-------------------- Man is timid and apologetic; he is no longer upright; he dares not say "I think," "I am," but quotes some saint or sage. He is ashamed before the blade of grass or the blowing rose.Man postpones or remembers; he does not live in the present, but with reverted eye laments the past, or, heedless of the riches that surround him, stands on tiptoe to foresee the future. He cannot be happy and strong until he too lives with nature in the present, above time TRANSCEND

yep, a person can read a bible, walking on a minefield, totally obvlious of the surroundings and when it blows up, there wouldn't be much pain, it would be short. Yes, very en-lightening indeed.

I don't think Genesis is one of the moral stories of the Bible. I think it's more of an explanation or metaphor to how duality arose and why we are able to use our free will to do things that we don't want to do, or are not good for us, but we still do them.

I don't know why so few people are interested in digging deeper into the histories of ancient Sumeria and Egypt to learn the origins of these stories, it certainly sheds light on their meaning...

Not only does it shed light, but the original stories and legends are much more interesting than the bible.

i find the bible fascinating b/c underneath all that garbage there's bit's of truth and a few wise words. So i like to think about it and research to find what it means to me.

I think this points to the fact that most of us are just a little worried about going to hell.

Yeah. F.U.D. is despicable. Fear, Uncertainty, and Death. It's a tactic used by businesses to keep people from using other products. It's used in religion, too. Works like a charm.

Both you guys are right on. No one would pay any attention to the ridiculous non-sense otherwise. I was programmed from birth with fundamentals hell fear. It has stuck with me on some level all my life even thought I know logically it's sick perverted and anti life.

i dont have a fear of hell. I'd say it was a a fear of the unknown. I in no way advocate religion but i think that the bible teaches you to not question the unknown b/c no one has the answers. Humans are naturally inquisitive, or at least they were after eating the fruit. But was it the curiosity that made them do it, or the great satan?

The depth and breadth of human suffering has been hugely increased by our knowledge and understanding.
