Hey, i was out searching a cow paddock near my house thisarvo, an i found 2 of these, and i was wondering if any1 cud help id them... im hoping they are blue meanies (c. cyanescens)
i took a spore print and its definately black, there is some blue/purple staining as you might be able to see from the photo (its a crappy pic). The stem is taking a while to show any colour, but the cap definately has some staining, the gills are brownish black, i have two that were together, and thats all i found... all up they weigh about 9 grams, also the stems are stringy and i think hollow
i hope thats enough info

I can't see the staining in the photo. Since you say it is turning blue, I guess it is Panaeolus cyanescens.
The only other thing it could be is Panaeolus semiovatus var. phalaenarum which is non-toxic.

Yep, that is no Copelandia in his photo.

by the way, when i picked them (yesterday arvo), they were not the same colour... they were white/cream or goldish, they turned that blackish colour pretty quickly after i picked them, most noticably around snaps in the stem andwhere other mushrooms were touching them

Don't store em in plastic containers like that.
Some species of inactive panaeolus can look pretty similar to copelandia. So, just make sure they all bruise blue. In the pic to the left it looks like there is bluing on the cap, but can't tell. And I think I see bluing on some of the stems. I think you got em man. Wait for a few more opinions though before Peace!!!

Weird.... I admit, some of those stipes look slightly green/blue where bent.
However, those do not look like Panaeolus cyanescens. They don't look like any active Panaeolus species in fact.

yeah, cc, that's what I was thinking. The stems just don't look quite right to me. And it's hard to tell with pictures if it's blue, or some other color.

They look like Psathyrella, but they are turning blue where they are bent.
Some better pics would help sort it out.

Keep looking!!! You are in the right climate to be finding copelandias.
To my knowledge no psath species grow from poo. They don't really look like psathyrellas to me though.

hmm... just a thought... is it possible that some of them are the active kind and most of them (the ones with no colour change) are inactive?? coz looking at the pics again (i threw out that first lot coz they were fucked) some of them rnt blue or watever colour where they r bent, but others r, and the ones that r also have the colouration on the cap as in the first pic (the individual 1)
like i said, just a thought

>mmm hunting fucking mushrooms is starting 2 irritate me now lol
Then you should probably stop hunting now. Mushroom hunting is one of those things you either enjoy for the hell of it, or you simply enjoy FINDING but not hunting for specific types of mushrooms. You will not always be lucky.
It is also one of those things that you should really be able to trust your own ID skills, rather than rely on other people, because the more you learn about mushroom identification, the more you realize how dangerous it can be.
So I mean, if you trust some people over the internet with your life.... Otherwise, start reading. A LOT.

True that.
And there are in fact a few psath species which grow from manure, my bad.

patience grasshopper... seems like you do have access to some areas with potential. IT took me years to find good populations of cubes, but once i did, I knew where to look and it took me a lot less time to find good fields. If you want to find the shroom, BE the shroom you are seeking, and dont nut your pants over the first shroom you find growing on turd - get to know how to ID what you are looking for, and generally look for blue/bluegreen staining
