Are shrooms even worth doing?

Its been two years since I've done them. And after a lot of thinking (I've been growing my own, which aren't finished yet) I'm wondering if I should even do them. Whats the point of revisiting the past?

I'm not going to spew the because they "expand your mind" rhetoric. If you don't want to do them then don't. Theres no pressure. My best answer would simply be because the state of mind that they lend to you is extremely interesting.

Doesn't sound like you have a good history. And with that mind set, it doesn't sound like you'll enjoy yourself much. I'd say wait till you're excited and happy about doing them.

The past is all gone and over with. The future cant be told or controled. All you have is the present to deal with. So deal with it.

Thats what made me so excited and happy in the first place. But I like where I'm at now, and am willing to deal with all of life's problems. Doing shrooms isn't going to help me become any more of a man, or do my homework for me, or help me get a job.
All I have is my life and my death. All life is composed of is health, wealth, and love. Shrooms don't increase any of that.

Look. I used the excuse of "oh man I really want to grow shrooms!" to help me live under a healthier living style. I cleaned my room, fixed my bed, and made sure there was no mold. This was all so I could grow shrooms.
Wrong. It was an excuse to clean my room to help me have an area to bring a girl to bed. I thank the mushrooms god for that insight. But doing them? ESP is awesome, but I already believe in it without their aid.
Do you guys understand where I'm coming from? My cakes have been birthed for a week now, and I just don't know if I should go through with it. All of this was my own choice, no pressure.

There doesn't need to be a reason! Do them because they are there. Do them because they provide an evolutionary advantage. Do them because it is interesting to be under their influence. Do them to use your brain in different ways. It isn't selfish to take them so long as the time you are taking to experience them isn't interfering with any obligations you have in everyday reality.

There was a study published in the Journal of Psychopharmacology about psilocybin in which the volunteers who took it had mystical-type experiences that they described "as having substantial personal meaning and spiritual significance and attributed to the experience sustained positive changes in attitudes and behavior". It was a well-done study, and if you are interested in reading the paper you can find it here:

In my opinion a huge portion of life is composed of your outlook on it. It's possible that taking shrooms could alter that outlook in a very positive way. That being said, it's your body, your life, and you need to decide what is best for you to do with it!

ummm recreation? shrooms let you travel without ever leaving your backyard. it's like visiting another country except funnier. If your out of the spiritual aspect then you CAN use shrooms for pure recreation. just take less. however as others have said only YOU can decide. but for me shrooms are my second favorite recreation intoxicant next to marijuana.

Hahaha. Yes. They are worth doing. Just do them, and you will see. Your thought plays tricks on you over time, remember that.
Your sobriety is in a losing battle with your imagination. Only time will snap you back.

Well, eating and breathing are selfish too by that reasoning.

Gonna have to disagree there. Unless you dont feel any love when doing mushrooms. IMO they are a fun experience; I couldnt imagine a life a total sobriety, its too boring. If not for allowing your brain to think differently then at least its a good fuck up.

I think one can only justify saying that while tripping. And yes, I agree with you.

Once your shrooms are done growing, give them away to someone who actually appreciates them.
--------------------
It's just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long, the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter, while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. But then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns. Also he got a race car. Is any of this getting through to you?

Don't be a jerk and try to put words into my mouth. I love the mushroom god, was just dealing with stress. Thanks for the helpful responses.

Why do you have to do them immediately after they're finished? make chocolates, throw em in the freezer and wait till you make a decision, then either eat them or share with friends as the previous poster mentioned.
It seems like you have a sort of cynical view of doing them, which makes me think you should - since your views seem to have changed in the two years that it's been since your last time, they may lend you an insight into this period of your life. If anything they may just validate your life as it is and you can be happy and confident with the way your life is going right now. Are you afraid that your life might not be what you really want it to be?
Also, you said after a lot of thinking you've changed your mind - what changed your mind? what were you thinking? what were your reasons in the first place for taking them? Have these changed?
