Tell me, does this not resonate with you?

"The LORD saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The LORD was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain." ~Genesis 6:5-6
"At 11:00am, until past 1:00pm, I had feelings of unutterable emotional pain which swept through me in wave after wave, coming out in moans, groans and sobbing with the words, "no, no, no, no" issuing forth. The analogy came to me and I said it aloud, that it was as though all the feelings that ever had been in the universe had to pass through me as though I was a small funnel. It was as though all of history's emotions were still existent somewhere and in this period of a few hours they had to flow through me. The realization of all the suffering that has been and now is a part of the world seemed to flood into me, and I felt with shattering intensity all the different kinds of hurt of men, women and children everywhere. The thought came bursting forth that "This is what God has had to go through" standing by, loving mankind, while mankind goes on hurting himself and each other through all his ignorance and injustice. I said aloud repeatedly, "Poor, poor, God. What God has had to go through." The thought came flooding in that this is what the cross means... the standing by, only able to offer love to man and to suffer for him till he experiences that love in a way that lets him stop hurting himself and his fellow man. This is what the cross means, I said "now I know what the cross means. If we only knew, we wouldn't go on doing this to each other. How does God let us go on existing?" ~ C.V., a minister (from LSD, Creativity and Spirituality. (a study by Oscar Janiger as to the effects of LSD))

That's incredible.
Christ's sacrifice seems similar to me to the psychedelic experience described in that passage, like a human conduit for God's anguish.

Genesis 6 comes from an older story about the sorrow of the Goddess... also see the story of Sophia.

to be honest it doesn't really resonate with me. the natural order of things can be hard, but thats just the way life is.
what resonates more with me is the idea that we can create or own order, perhaps without so much sorrow, and it seems like we're doing a fairly good job of it, so i'm happy.

This is what God has had to go through" standing by, loving mankind, while mankind goes on hurting himself and each other through all his ignorance and injustice.

So why didn't God just stop it. No wait. I know what you're going to say. I love it when people believe in comic book heros.
God is a DORK! I can't believe modern humanoids believe this absolute non-sense. Makes me think of the DODO bird.

Suffering is nessecary if you want to experience the pleasure of it all.
Its not even possible for us to experience one without the other. Many argue well if god is all powerful he could see it that we experience pleausure without pain.
Experience tells me that pleasure is in itself not the reason for its existence.
Pain and pleasure are ways in which we experience transcendence from a variation on form to another.
Hey Icelander, it critical to notice that although many believe and believe things which seem ridiculous to believe. Yet i ask you to notice that the only reason you see it as ridicoulous, lies in the truth that others believe whole heartedly that it is invariable truth.
The importance of all life stands firmly within the variance that exist within the experience we deliver all expression in, all love, all potential.
What will heal the world?
-------------------- The mind is a creative tool. It searches to protect you, through message sensations(feelings). It is no different than a computer, you need to make sure its anti-virus program is in check and that it doesnt have a script that limits your experience, because of to much precaution. And remember the computer does not appear to respond to words of anger and frustration - just give it input, in the form of new meanings that you know to be true and its messages to you and the limits it lays out for you, will change. Guilt is an outcome of believing you are the cause of the problems. Yet, we are not a cause to something, we see is negative or bad - Unless you believe your intentions are directed towards a bad outcome....

It resonates with me. Like Tchan, I also related Christ's sacrifice to a psychedelic experience. God watching by and loving mankind in his ignorance rings very true to me as well. It brings to mind the state of ego loss and unbearable compassion where it feels like your heart could explode and the amount of love that poured out would heal the world.

Just drop the cosmic part. Being here at the shroomery went a long way in curing me of any illusions of humanity and spirituality having anything to do with each other.

What makes you say that? I honestly believe that anybody can be happy without having to suffer. It is true that we can price pleasure more after we suffered, but I don't think that pleasure exists only if suffering does too. Also I don't consider it to be a very healthy way of looking at life, because it induces a certain degree of indulgence towards pain where one, instead of acting upon removing the pain might live in comfort of the thought that "better days will come". Suffering can be a great teacher, and one of the first lessons we learn from it is that suffering is merely a reflection of our fears and delusions.
Quote:

Not true. Both pain and suffering are notions, interpretations of our own minds. Definitions that we give in order to appreciate the quality of our existence. They are only important to make us able to communicate and measure. However, genuine pleasure can be felt and more to that, it increases as we solve our issues and eliminate the pain.
Quote:
Experience tells me that pleasure is in itself not the reason for its existence.
How's that? Both from experience and observations, I learned that what generally seems to drive us on a universal scale is pleasure.

For what it's worth, I once had a similar trip to what was described by the minister. I felt myself experiencing the pain that humans inflict upon each other, and then thought, if God is one with us, then he must experience all this suffering all the time. The idea of God as some cold, distant, omnipotent being doesn't really resonate with me. I tend to think that God is affected by his creation(as he is in his creation), and that those like Christ or the Buddha and other awakened beings are commissioned to help reduce suffering in the world.
