well. it seems to stop it dead in its tracks. i read this on the board that someone used it. and now i started on my casings. the second i see that white crystaly growth, i salt it. and it usually dies there. seems like the mushrooms dont mind. i have a couple popping up in a spot that broke out w/ the greenish tinted white. which i salted and stopped.
so does anyone else use salt to battle trich???
give it a try. it works!
any evidence its bad for the mycelium?

Ever hear of armies razing villages and salting the earth? . Too much of anything is bad. I expect the mycelium sure doesn't appreciate being covered with salt but if it works it works. Sorry to hear about your trichoderma infestation man. Dat sucks .

Salt paste is better. However, it shouldn't be used except to get a flush that is already fruiting. When you salt it in one place, it will pop up in another shortly. All you're doing is salting what's on the surface. Most of the organism is in the substrate.
The above is for casing layers. If you're growing on sawdust-woodchip blocks, salt paste can be used anytime you see trich, which is usually just on the surface. Last year, I filmed a video tek for salting straw logs and substrate blocks, but there wasn't room for it on my DVD. Perhaps I'll post it to youtube. RR

it's in the nute network, it can pop up wherever it pleases now, salting /peroxiding those spots is useless. U cannot beat trich.

I've used salt many times to fend off the green long enough to harvest a flush or two.
I cover the contaminated patch and a bit of the surrounding area heavily with salt, and mist liberally with water so the solution soaks into the underlying substrate.
I've had this method eradicate trich for 3 or more flushes, but sometimes the trich has spread enough by the time it is caught, it is simply too late.
