Cheapest Place You Have Lived
    #7701948 - 12/01/07 07:28 AM (16 years, 2 months ago)

The cheapest place I lived was in a little studio apartment for $260 a month, now I live in a 2 bedroom apartment for $449 a month, it's roomy a lot bigger than most places.

My rents £400 a month (roughly $800) then £100 council tax ontop of that. Its a 2 bedrom flat, not that bad a size but it aint big. Housing prices are unbelievable in the UK.

The area aint to bad, theres a lot of idiots about and my garage got broken into once, 2 generators stolen but apart from that its pretty quiet.

man thats a lot but at least violence isn't as bad there as it is here or is it? I mean we got people killing each other over parking spaces here only a few months into the year there was 15 drive by shootings and the murders just don't stop, it is out of control, so I guess I get what I pay for.

I pay $1200 a month for a two bedroom. When I lived in college housing it worked out to about $400/month at its cheapest.

The price is about average for renting a farm place around northwest Iowa. A lot of the farm places just sit empty until they are knocked down, if we weren't on good terms with the land owners we wouldn't even be here. Most people around here own over 1,000 acres, they really don't need to worry about renting out a house, they can just let it fall over.
We are getting somewhat special treatment for being ambitious.

Ironically, the cheapest and the most expensive places I've ever lived are both right here where I am now....

Currently I live in a 700 sq ft apartment and pay almost $2000 a month rent (thats what happens when you wanna live right by the beach). 15 years ago I was homeless and sleeping on the lifegaurd towers at night less then a mile from where I am sitting now (for free, of course).

I'm always amazed at real estate/rent price discrepancies between different areas. In my hometown you can rent a decent apartment for $350 a month. You can rent a dump for $250 a month. You can buy a house for $30,000. You can buy a mansion for $300,000. Yet, in some parts of the U.S. (California, New York, eastern Mass., etc..) $300,000 wouldn't even buy you a garage.

I've mentioned this before here, but I'll say it again.  There is a small studio unit for sale 2 doors down from where I live right now.  Its about 400 sq ft.  They are asking a little over $300K!

just moved from a big city to a small town, and damn, its so much cheaper to live out here!

I split a $750/mo 2 bedroom with my girl. The rent includes free high speed internet and cable TV. And the best part is, the electricity out here is socialized, run by the municipal government. So my electric bill is usually less than $100 a month!

so basically, I spend about $500 a month on living expenses. Not bad, in the big city it was more like $2000.

Once you exercise this freedom you've lost all control over what you do, what is produced, and how it is produced. And in the end, the product doesn't belong to you. The only way you can avoid bosses and jobs is if you don't care about making a living. Which leads to the second freedom: the freedom to starve."
